Can I use aquaphor on the area right by the eye, where I have been clearing away the gook? I just don't like to resort to the antibiotic (terrmycin) every time it happens, as I was told by vet I have to put on eye twice a day for 7 days even if It clears after the first day. I don't have the eye drops, just gel.

Thanks in advance

by the way my kitty does have feline herp and gets these upper resp symtoms at times. (8month old rescue )

It does sound like she needs the Terramycin. Not sure what Aquaphor would do; I don't think it would help with symptoms.

You need to use the terramycin on the eyes twice a day as the vet prescribed. How are you treating the URI/herpes? Were you given clavamox? It usually takes a strong antibiotic to clear out a URI.

I actually have an eye ointment called erythromycin. I dont know what clavamox is, the doc never prescribed it for his flare ups. Just the erythromycin. I know he's going to have the herpes forever (or the clymitia the doc didn't exactly know), do you just mean clavamox is good for the flare ups?

The clavamox is an antibiotic that will clear up a URI flare-up. The erythromycin eye ointment works similarly to the terramycin. The erythromycin ointment will cure an eye infection, but not an upper respiratory infection (URI). If your cat has a current URI from herpes or whatever, the cat needs an oral antibiotic to clear it. You would need to speak with your vet. Does your cat have a current URI?

Please discuss this with your vet before you put any medicine in your cat's eye.
