You should put her in a box with a heating source. It's really, really not safe to sleep with her. I don't want to scare you but she could easily suffocate. You can put a sock with raw rice in the microwave for 5 minutes. It will stay warm for 3-4 hours and the kitten can snuggle it.

Are you stimulating the kitten to potty?
great ideas!!  I heard that a heating pad on low and covered in blankets works well. Just make sure that the heating pad stays covered if uncovered it might burn the little one. The potty thing is so often overlooked

I tried putting her back in with mum again and a heat source and I just woke up and mum had moved her under her chin and was grooming her/licking her which is definitely a good sign right?

yes, a good sign.  You still need to feed the kitten but if can nurse off mom while the others are sleeping it would be good.  I think the kittens benefit from the bonding and it helps them in the long run.

You have received excellent advice so far, and due to your efforts, the kitten is still alive! I believe that you should hand-raise the kitten for now, away from the others, but it does need a heat source. You'll need a heat source for the kittens who are with mom, and the kitten by itself. You are doing a great job! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Edit: just saw the picture! That's great that mom is caring for the baby, but continue feeding the kitten for now.

Just checked on her again and she's gone into another section of the bed by herself so I've just put the heat source with her and and a blanket around her to keep her warm is that okay? Or should I move her and place her somewhere by herself? Thank you :)

Do you have a heating pad? it would be a consistent and steady heat source for her
No unfortunately I don't, I'm just using a sock with rice in and heating it up for a minute in the microwave then I hear it up every two hours for her

For orphans, my friend uses a small heat lamp like they use for baby chicks.  However, mama cat usually wants the space dark and it has to be dark when they get old enough that their eyes are opening (10 days to 2 weeks).  The thing with a heating pad is to make sure it only covers part of the bottom of the bed so that the kittens can get away from it.  Too hot can kill them as fast as too cold can.  That's why mama cat is the perfect heating pad.  She is just the right temperature.  Yes, you did find her alone and cold and unfed the first time, but now you are feeding her and providing heat so she's not going to fade away for lack of nourishment.  While she is tiny like a newborn, she's actually been on this earth for a little while, and the kittens do sleep from time to time when they get older.  They don't nurse constantly like newborns do.

Use your own best judgement as to where to put her. Just make sure she is warm and fed through the night as you've been doing. [emoji]128522[/emoji]

I'm afraid you might be getting so many caring advices that it will confuse you.

It is definitely best for baby to be with mom and sibs, you have already seen mom grooming the baby now since putting her back in, this is the best for her all around, this is what nature intended, to be raised by a cat rather than a human, however you must continue to syringe feed her, mom will take care of the rest.

I would also continue with the rice sock in case, in with mom and kids too.

You're doing a great job!

If mom is interacting with her I think leaving her in the nest is for the best, as long as you are feeding her, of course. I would continue using the rice socks so she has something to snuggle if she is forced out. I would also continue to help her potty until she is thriving more.

Thank you! I've been putting her back in with mum she's been in with her today and last night but if also kept the heat source in with her because i find that sometimes she will go to mum and then others she will like to be by herself so this works best. I have only started taking her out for feeds now :)

How is the little one today?
Thank you for asking! She's been with mum all day except for feeds and helping her go to the toilet etc. She's looking better I think she has grown more now too and I can definitely tell the difference in her size now to three days ago! Mums also been grooming her and has got any formula off of her fur that o was struggling to do. Everything's looking good right now so fingers crossed!

That is wonderful news. We had a puppy that was the runt of the litter and we had to step in to save her. She grew up to be the most amazing dog we ever had. It has been over 10 years since Tuffy passed and there are times that I will shed a tear for her. I hope you and the little one have a wonderful life together.

She was so special. I was raised on a farm and one day we found that she brought 4 baby bunnies into her dog house. She was trying to look after them licking them and keeping them warm. My dad came into the house that day and said he found a nest of baby rabbits, 3 where killed by a rat. He also found the rat, it too had been killed. Tuffy must have heard the baby bunnies crying, saw what was happening, killed the rat and brought the bunnies home to look after them. I have so many stories about her. We have had many pets that we all loved and cherished but she was by far the most special pet we ever had.

Are you able to weigh the little one each day to make sure she is gaining the proper amount.  I found this on line

Kittens weigh about 100 grams (3-5 ounces) at birth and gain approximately 7 to 15 grams per day (a quarter to over half an ounce). Thus, they will double their birth weight by seven days and triple it by twenty-one days (males gaining even faster).

Hello, thank you so much for your help and advice, I'm quite worried now because I've been feeding her but not into her cheek. I've been putting small amounts of formula into her mouth at a time and waiting for her to swallow it. I've been putting the syringe in from the side of the cheek never the front of the mouth though. I've been doing it this way for three days now? Is that bad? She seemed to be fine with it but with you saying she won't survive I'm extremely worried! Thank you
The point of putting it in her cheek is to make sure she swallows it correctly, doesn't inhale it.  If that had happened, you'd probably know by now.  Just change your procedure in the future and it should be fine.

Obviously, you're taking extremely good care of this little cutie; if you weren't, she'd already be dead.

Margret
