We have a new kitten who was having eye problems and the Vet sold us some tripple antibiotic ointment for her eye. When I got home I just decided to check if it had the same ingrediants that our Tripple Antibiotic Ointment had and it did.

Question: In the future can we just use any tripple antibiotic ointment or do we have to pay $15 for a tiny tube from the vet?

I don't see why not. I usually get a tube of Terrimycin ointment for minor eye problems. If it doesn't clear up in a few days, then they go to the vet.

I would not advise using regular triple antibiotic ointment in your kittens eye, unless your vet has explicitly told you that this is safe. Triple antibiotic ointment sold in drug stores for human use (cuts, scrapes, etc.) is going to be formulated differently than any triple antibiotic ointment intended for ophthalmic use.

Please consult YOUR vet prior to using any medicines...

Terramycin is something that we usually had on hand at the shelter as well. BUT that is different from triple antibiotic ointment, which is what the OP was inquiring about and which I would still advise not putting in anyone's eye, feline or otherwise.
