Hi I take care of a colony of 3 cats.  One has always been skinnier then the others and always looked like it was more of a sickly cat. He has had a few health issues that have worked them selves out.  Once he was showing his third eye. I was able to trap him and the vet shot him with a round of antibiotics, he got better. Another time he had lost his appetite for almost a week, and became very lethargic.  Was sleeping a lot. When this happened I didn't take him in, I was about to, but then he turned around and starting eating again out of nowhere. At the time I thought he must of passed whatever it was.  I tried a bunch of different food and cat broth till he was back up and healthy.

It is now a year later, and he looks much better. He has put on weight and noticeably looks better, my neighbors have all commented on that he now looks like a "normal cat".

But now the last 3 days again his appetite has decreased.  He usually is the first one to the dishes, gobbles up a bunch and then walks away.  Now he goes to smell it and walks away. He shows up like hes hungry comes running then nothing.  I feed them both wet and dry food, morning and night.

This morning I went out and bought every flavor cat food I could find, plus tuna thinking he might just being picky about the same flavor over and over. He ate some dried cat treats (about 10), and a little piece of tuna and some other flavored wet food.  Fancy Feast has this broth stuff and he did a few licks of that. Then walked away.

He isn't lethargic at all this time.  He is his normal self, running around. Pouncing his friends.  When I left for work today he was climbing a tree to look at some birds. Seems fine otherwise basically.

Could he just be eating mice and birds and is not very hungry?  Is he not burning a lot of calories?  I have a shed set up for them with carpeting and heated cat shelters inside, that he likes to lounge in.

His fur has always not been super soft like the others, but nothing you would notice visually. He lets me pet him a bit and its just a little more scruffy. Does he have fleas or ticks or worms??

I am not sure what to do at this point.  I most likely will wait it out till I see some other symptoms. Its just how long do you wait when hes not eating.

Thanks for any advice.

It does seem like he may be hunting.  Sometimes when my 3 hunt, they don't want to eat either.  Also sometimes they eat one of the critters/birds they caught and it upsets their stomach for a bit.

Since he isn't lethargic, I would just keep an eye on him.

Agreed -  if he's not acting lethargic I'd just watch. I know our ferals seem to fluctuate every now and then with their interest in food. I wonder how much of it is hunting and how much of it is finding another "sucker" somewhere in our neighborhood :)  Of course I always #1) worry, and #2) think, what? My food isn't the best? Funny when you think about it. But it is smart to keep an eye. If he's acting fine though - I agree - just watch him. Chances are he's "eating out."

Your probably right. He must be eating some elsewhere or hunting. I worry bc there has been a string of poisonings in my hood. Its around 10 blocks up further, and I dont think they go that far but it freaks me out. Its a known thing and the neighborhood is trying to catch the guy.

His eating picked up again this weekend. Then today it dwindled. He is still fine though. Very active playing right now with the rest of his crew. The weather is getting nicer so everyone seems to be in good spirits. I am keeping a close eye and if his health seems to go down i will decide what to do then. The rest of them are eating normal and seem good.

Awwww--- Oliver's so cute! Definitely reminiscent of our Bowie! (so named for David Bowie and his "guy liner").

I know what you mean about the eating - we've had all of those things...complete with the poisonings. We had a rash of poisonings almost two years ago (we ended up bringing one of the ferals inside because of the poisoning fears - her name is "Flick" - and she's truly become the love of our life but don't tell our others). And the neighbor was never caught - so anytime feeding varies or ferals disappear I start to worry. I've developed a relationship with some of the other neighbors who feed ferals, so we try to check in with each other when any disappear.

But it's funny - the food intake also seems to slow when we have a good weather stretch - like now. You'd think I'd be happy (my guess is they're going further afield because they're enjoying stretching their legs, etc) - -but instead I worry. It's our job, right? :) I try to remind myself that since thye've got us, they've got things quite a bit better than their "non-mothered" brethren.

Keep loving them - - I think they know it :)
