Hello, all!

My 10-month-old, Luka, has a fairly loose stool. Not diarrhea but it could use some help

I took a stool sample of his to the vet a few weeks ago and it showed no coccidia or any parasites, just some bacteria so she gave him metronidazole (Flagyl) and some probiotics.  It helped but has anyone heard of Weruva Pumpkin Patch Up?  It's got great reviews and I know that pumpkin is a good thing to add to their food if they have either diarrhea or constipation.  I just want his gut to finally be healthy. The reason I want to try this is the reviews said cats love it and Luka refuses to eat canned pumpkin mixed with his wet food.

Thanks for any advice!

I think most people here just use regular canned pumpkin from the supermarket. It's cheaper. But if your cat won't eat it, then you can try the Weruva. Maybe it tastes different (to the cat) from canned pumpkin. Canned foods sometimes have a "tinny"or metallic taste.

Canned cat food that contains pumpkin may be another option. Weruva has a few in both canned and pouch varieties.

Did you get liquid Flagyl? My Aby was on that last month for almost the same issue as your cat: loose stool and an upset tummy. Even flavored with chicken, it's a pretty yucky tasting medicine to get into a cat. There's a pill form of Flagyl that is supposedly easier to give.

A probiotic can help in the long run. Apparently FortiFlora isn't the best one to use because it only has one strain of bacteria and not very many CFUs. Here are some threads to help you choose one:

Thanks much for the quick reply!

Yes, I think Pumpkin Patch has flavors that cats like, maybe tuna or chicken. I'll go back and check them out. Thanks for the links for probiotics also. This is a great site for feline questions.

Oh, and the Flagyl was pill form. I've had to give the liquid to some foster babies before and it's nasty stuff. They were foaming and trying to get it out of their mouths, poor babies. I MUCH prefer the half pill!

Yes, my cats like the Pumpkin Patchup a lot. They don't particularly liked the canned stuff from the grocery store.

Weruva's BFF line has a flavor with tuna and little chunks of pumpkin in it.

Thanks, I'm gonna get some today and see if he likes it.  They sell it at a health food store here in TPA.  Will let you know!

Pumpkin Patch only comes in one variety but some of the main Weruva foods have pumpkin like Pumpkin Jack Splash and Pumpkin Lickin Chicken (both in the Cats In The Kitchen line) and Steak Frites and On The Cat Wok (both in the Truluxe line). Weruva's Soulistic brand (sold at Petco) might have some foods with pumpkin http://soulisticpet.com

I had no idea that Flagyl was available in pill form until I mentioned the liquid here on TCS
Fortunately my Aby has a very short term memory (and he lets me do pretty much anything to him without fussing) so giving him the liquid twice a day for a week wasn't too bad.

You are VERY fortunate that your Aby is so laid back, especially knowing how awful it must taste for him!
Thanks for the info on the foods!  I love the names that gave to the foods.
