My little momma to be is going to burst soon. She's about 2 1/2 years old and this is her second litter. First time being the owner of a pregnant cat. I'm nervous for delivery, I have one of the kittens from her first litter and she's a little jealous I think. Just caught her jumping at momma Ripley with her front paws bouncing off her big belly. Ripley did very well with the first litter, little to no help required, but wanted us around during. So I'm really curious about the signs she's gonna have them soon and what I'll need just in case she needs assistance.

We have a good collection of articles in the Cat Health section which you can access by scrolling up to the brown bar, clicking on Articles, and then choosing the Cat Health section and scrolling through the choices.  To make this super easy for you, I am copying the links regarding birth, delivery and newborns for you here.  After reading this information, let us know if you have any more questions.  And good luck with your approaching new arrivals.

I hope that once she has this litter you will give some thought to spaying her.  There are multiple health benefits for her and financial benefits to you in doing so.  Just a few of these are discussed here: http://www.thecatsite.com/a/spay-and-neuter-your-cats

Please be aware that she can get pregnant again within a week of delivery. She should be kept inside and away from intact males until she can be spayed when the kittens are 8 weeks old.

There are not many, if any, cats in my area. She got pregnant when she was living in town before I got her and her owners didnt want to go through kittens again so I took her in instead of her and the kittens ending up on the street. She is now in the country with no homes close around us.

Male cats will travel miles to get to a female cat in heat.
I can't emphasize this enough... some feral males also have territories/ "home ranges" of over a thousand acres, no joke.  Even domestic cats (Toms) can have a "home territory" of well over 500 acres. Your cat is only safe if she's inside until she's spayed.  As Handsome Kitty says, male cats CAN locate female cats in heat and WILL do so even if they have to travel miles.  Unfortunately, your location doesn't  make you safe.

There are also health benefits for your girl. Cats are likely to get pyometria if they go through multiple heat cycles without getting pregnant. They are also at risk for cancer.

Just curious how long the first stage of labour can last. I believe she started having contractions at 3:30pm thus afternoon.

What time is it currently where you are? If she's been having contractions for sure all day long without birthing a single kitten, then something is wrong and you need to contact your vet right away. I really hope this isn't the case! Contractions don't go unnoticed, she will be very vocal along with them too.

Not all cats are vocal during contractions. Many just purr. Mine purred loudly and almost non-stop and never meowed until she pushed a kitten out.

How is she doing now?

9:54am now. They seem like they are very very far apart. Could they be pre-contractions? Or I could be seeing the little ones trying to move but they have no more room. She is very happy and loving towards me. She's purring and has been content with playing with her cat nip toy all night and morning.

I also noticed that she ate like a piggy all day yesterday and the bowl I put down before bed. Then this morning when I gave her some breakfast she didn't seem interested at all.
