Hi there Im new to the forum but a question has been plaguing me. My female cat, BMO, is a three year old Domestic short hair. She is happy and healthy but never really grew after 6 months. I got her as an orphan at one week old and had to bottle feed her so I wonder if her growth was stunted because of it.

And before anyone gets mad, my boyfriend (now husband:D) found her crying  under his house with two already dead sibling and no mother in sight. Thank goodness she had a powerful set of lungs. Right now she is about 7 pounds of attitude.

as a comparison I have a couple photos-

6-8 months

2.5 years

Just curious about other peoples opinions. I have visited a vet and they said it could be either. It also doesnt help that my other cat is 17.5 pounds (only slightly fat.) making her look puny in comparison

Some cats, esp females, just are really tiny. I grew up with a 5 pound Siamese who gave birth to a boy who grew to be 19 pounds. My own first cat was also tiny, about 6 pounds as well.

7lbs is a goodly size for a cat. 4 out of my 5 are right about that weight.

The smallest adult cat I've ever seen was about 4lbs. A rescue found her eating out of/living in a dumpster behind a Chinese food place. In that case I would vote that her growth was stunted.

Hi there! Welcome to the both of you!

7 pounds is normal. My Lilith is a tiny little thing. She's about 5 pounds. 1 pound of that is her long, silky hair. Some cats are just bigger or smaller than others. Lilith's sister Sophie is also on the smaller side at about 6 pounds. At least 1 pound of hair.

I call Sophie Lily's sister because they are both my kids but I suspect that Lily could be Sophie's mother. Only they know and they are not talking.

My boy Henry is about 10 pounds so he makes the girls look even smaller. Don't let  Lily's size fool you though. She is our alpha and bosses everyone (including my 40 pound border collie) around and rules the house with an iron paw.

BMO looks great to me. She  is a beauty for sure!!
Does her name stand for anything?

As already mentioned, 7 pounds is well within the normal size range for cats, especially females. I once took in a pregnant stray, who, for her whole life never tipped 6 pounds, and she gave birth to 4 huge boys----I kept one and he got to be 17 pounds! There's a pretty wide range of "normal" for cats.

They do seem small though, especially when you have larger cats. One of mine is 7 pounds and she just seems so tiny! But that's just because the other cats are huge :tongue2:.
