Our 45th wedding anniversary is at the end of April.

We ran into some friends at the grocery store on Saturday; we had talked to them quite a while ago about a trip to Ireland and Scotland.....someday. I guess that someday is here, or at least getting closer. Bill asked Rick how serious we were about going to Ireland and Scotland. Rick looked at him and said, "As serious as death." I looked at everybody and said, 'Excuse me? EXCUSE ME???". Robin started to laugh; I was not amused. (These are friends who we may not talk to for months on end and as soon as we see each other, we just simply pick up right where we left off. They are really great people. We have been friends since the early 1970s.)

We're getting together for dinner to discuss plans. They'd like to go around the end of this year or perhaps early in 2017. It will take us some time to get that kind of money saved up to go. Rick told me that if he plans this out and we save the money and he arranges for the tickets and such, if I turn tail and run, he will divorce me on the spot....or as soon as they get back from the trip. He also reminded me that we did get passports,so that's already out of the way.

Looks like we're going to see just what it takes for me to get on that blasted plane. I told Robin if we're going down, I couldn't think of anybody else I'd rather go down with. And she gave me a hug.

I know, I know. It's the trip of a lifetime and all that. I just want to live long enough to come back and talk about it.

Are you worried about the flight? All in all, they have a pretty good track record... They're not my favorite mode of transportation, but that's a physiological thing, (my ears don't pop). The trip itself sounds amazing, and I'm a bit jelly! Gratz!

OMG going to watch this thread totally.  Tom and I are on the verge of getting engaged (the ring, is being sent today yay!).  Ireland/Scotland are two places we're tossing around for honeymoon.  I've always wanted to go there, plus his heritage is a mash up of both countries with some other stuff thrown in.

Go! Go! Go!

We went to Ireland for a family reunion.  The flight wasn't bad, they were always feeding us.  You can see your doctor and get something for the flight/anxiety.  Now you can bring your laptop and hang out on TCS.

If you belong to Costco or BJ's check for deals on the trip.  When we went in '04ish we got a Bed and Breakfast w/rental car and flight deal.  It was reasonable.  I also checked with my bank about using our debit card there and put my spending money in the checking account.  We just withdrew the money as we went along.  Credit cards work as well.

It's a beautiful county and even the tourist spots don't seem that touristy.

When you go, if you don't post about a bazillion pictures here, I shall crawl through the web, dodging spiders, and FLICK the end of your nose!

Take a couple of sedatives half an hour before you get on the plane and you'll sleep like a baby all way.

You're going the coldest time of the year. Rain in Ireland and probably Scotland. If you remember I was in Edinburgh end of October beginning of November but their beautiful countries and as far as I know Ireland has the best beers.

And of course Scotch whisky is the best to be had.

~~SIGH~I am Scots, or about 7/8 Scots, and as much as I hate to admit it, I actually prefer rum and bourbon to scotch, and wine to any of them.  My father, now, was a Dewer's man, although  he wasn't above canoodling about with Johnny Walker.

I.don't drink. I did in my late teens early 20's. It took some time for me to realise that ending parties with my head down the toilet wasn't fun and I stopped drinking.
