Hi! I have a cat that has just had a second surgery for bladder stones. She has been on the vet recommended dry food for urinary tract for about 4 years with wet food, fancy feast pate fish.So here we are she isn't eating or drinking much yet and lots of small pees and wanting to hide.Vet insists on medi cal SO she hates it.Any suggestions for a canned food that would be good for her and she does get special water IF she decides to drink and absolutely done with the dry.We are in Canada so not sure if brands are the same.Any other advice for this poor girl would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi C cathyvan :wavey: Welcome to TCS!

There are several different brands of prescription urinary foods out there. If your girl doesn't like one then try another. The two best known brands are Royal Canin Urinary s/o and Hills c/d. I believe there's a Purina prescription diet too.

At this stage, it really is important to feed a prescription diet as they're specially formulated to break down crystals to enable them to be easily passed in the urine.

If all else fails, talk to your vet about trying a DL-methionine supplement. It's the primary active ingredient in the prescription foods, but dosage has to be accurate and appropriate, as too much can cause it's own problems.

This article has lots of ways to help boost fluid intake

Good luck. I hope your girl feels better soon :vibes:

If this was my cat she would be on either 100% good quality wet food or homemade cooked/raw food, absolutely no kibble, and no fish flavored foods. In my opinion RX foods are total garbage and if i was a cat I wouldn't eat it either.

here are some reading resources -

here's a list of good quality wet/raw foods - http://www.naturalcatcareblog.com/2010/12/the-7-best-natural-commercial-cat-foods-so-far/

Here's a company that makes a pre-mix you can use to make homecooked or raw food (its very easy) with tons of info on their site
