Hi everyone. I am very new to having a cat and also new (obviously) to this site. On Tuesday (23 Feb 16) I found a little kitten and rescued her. I took her to my vet. He thinks she is about 8 weeks old. She has a bit of a cold and he gave her some antibiotics. She lost most of her whiskers (they are different lengths) and she had fleas and ticks which she was treated for. Otherwise she seemed perfectly fine. She didn't seem to know how to eat the wet food so I fed her little bit at a time with my finger (she licked it off). She seems tame and very playful. However, I am worried about her stool. It is 'a very dark brown color and smells absolutely horrid. Also, last night she had some diarrhea, it got stuck to her back paws and I had to clean her. Could it be from whatever she was eating before I found her? Is it normal? Should I take her to the vet? I have a tendency to overreact when it comes to my pets and I don't want to bither my vet unnecesarily.

Welcome to TCS and congratulations on your new kitten!
Do you know if the vet did a fecal exam and tested for things like roundworms, coccidia or giardia?  And was your kitten dewormed?  The following article gives some information on this - even if you rescued your kitten some other way than from a shelter or rescue group, the information is still relevant.

If neither were done, then yes, you should take your kitty back to the vet.  However, it is not unusual for cats to suffer some digestive upset when their food is changed abruptly so that could be part of the issue.  Do you know what she was eating before?  If so, you could gradually switch her over from it to the desired food.

What is your new girl's name?  And do you have pictures?  We love pictures!

Some stomach upset is normal when transitioning to new food.  How much and what are you feeding her?  How often?
