Not sure if this is indicative of pain?
My kitty slept like this all the time.  She has since passed but she wasn't in pain,  I never understood how she breathed tho but she did.   When they are in pain they hide or they lay in the meatloaf position and don't look comfortable,  Your baby looks very happy and content sleeping that way.

I truly believe that it isn't heart related but again, I am not a vet.  I honestly feel there is some irritant...be it dust or pollen or something else that is causing her issue.  She is young and younger kitties breathe faster than older kitties, in my experience.  I have a 20 year old, 5 - 4 yr olds, 1 - 2 yr old and 2 - 1 year olds.  The 1 year olds breathe a lot faster than the 20 year old.  Some times I have to make sure she is still breathing she is breathing so deep and slow.  I am glad the vets are helping you!

She's not breathing slow, it's normal rate, it's just slightly more abdominal than normal.
We are going to try her on a short term steroid to see if it improves. If not then it could be heart related and I'd have to take her to a specialist for an ultrasound to confirm. She has no fluid in her chest and no external heart enlargement, so that is a good sign for now, except that internal heart wall thickening is the most common and it can't be detected in an X-ray.

I know she isn't breathing slow, I was describing my old girl :)    Hopefully she will respond to the steroids so that she won't need anymore vet visits for a while!  Then she will stop giving you dirty looks behind your back!  :)

I just hope it's not a heart issue....

Well she's on a short round of prednisone and a course of lung dewormer. We're basically trying to check things off the list by process of elimination. This vet, there are 2 at my practice and the other one saw her previously, said she watched the breathing video and wasn't really alarmed by it...

That all sounds like really good news to me :) I honestly think allergies/mild asthma is the most likely cause...especially after all these tests etc. Try not to stress and to stay positive :hugs: :vibes:

Thanks, my worst fear is that the process of elimination leads us to heart issues... I'm monitoring her breathing very carefully.

She would eat some of a treat and lick a little wet food off my hand... But none of her other food. This never happens.

Stay calm. She'll definitely pick up on your anxiety, and that won't help anything. I know it's far easier said than done, but do your best - fake calmness if you have to ;)

If she'll eat from your hand, try hand feeding her. It's a slow process, but she does need to eat. Warming the food can help too. If all else fails, try her on some plain cooked meat...or even some tuna or plain meat baby food. [article="32998"][/article][article="33011"][/article]

How's her breathing today?

She will drink some tuna water and I'm mixing some tuna with her wet food to see if she

I tried mixing tuna with her wet food, she basically just ate the tuna, she drank the tuna water I gave her as well, plus some water from a cup. I tried to feed her from my hand and she had a couple small morsels of wet food and then wouldn't eat anymore.

Her breathing appears to be the same rate and look the same as yesterday: I saw her deelu sniffing a few spots on the couch and when she brought her head up her mouth was open a crack, and she closed it in a second. Not sure if that's classified as open mouth breathing or not.

That doesn't sound like open mouth breathing to me. If she continues to refuse food (even straight tuna or other extra yummy treats) give your vet a call and get her take on it. Better safe than sorry!

She ate straight tuna and some dry raw duck breast treats I have for them. I'm so scared the breathing plus now this inappetance is symptomatic of heart disease. She had no fluid in her chest and her X-ray and ekg were normal, but hypertrophic cardiomyopathy wouldn't show on an X-ray anyway. I would have to travel 2+ hours for a cardiac ultrasound.

I should stress that she NEVER misses breakfast. She always eats and is begging for more.

That's why I'm suggesting that you speak to your vet again. I've never seen your cat, and I have no veterinary training. Your vet really is the best person to advise you...and a phone call may be all that's necessary.

Just a thought - had you mixed any meds into her food? She might simply be objecting to them if you did.

Yes I tried to mix her prednisone in and she wouldn't eat it. I did this last night but it was for her supper and she hadn't eaten since breakfast, so she ate it. I've been giving her smaller meals and snacks up until about 11pm last night as well... I'm not sure why she wouldn't eat her dry food though because normally she loves that. She just ate some more tuna as well.

It's probably all the changes....the smaller meals, adding the steroid into the mix.  Cats like routine.  Changes upset them.  She's had quite a few changes to her routine lately...Vet visits, etc.  I would say it's just a compilation of all that that's messing with her, but always better to check with your Vet.  Possibly a side effect of the steroids is loss of appetite, although normally it's the opposite.

AND, for YOUR sake, I think I'd get that Cardiac Ultrasound.  2 hours away?  Is she a good traveler?  Could you give her some Rescue Remedy for Pets?  I find that works pretty well for calming my guys....at least it did when we were doing a bathroom remodel and had lots of hammering, etc. in the house.

She's only been to the vet once this week. She's an ok traveller just extremely nervous, curls up in a ball and is very scared in the carrier, I would have to give her something. I've phoned the vet about her not eating this morning, I hope she has eaten today.... I've left food out for her and my other cat is segregated to get a urine sample, so I will be able to see if she's eaten.
I can't help but think these signs point to heart...

She ate completely normally yesterday and last night. She's since had a prednisone and a lung dewormer... And now is not eating.
