I started my 17 year old calico, Shuffles, on L-Lysine about one month ago.  She's been to the vet for some pink eye discharge. They gave us a medication, had us apply it for one week, but the day after it came right back. I'm not positive what's causing it, but it's basically just chronic pink eye discharge. Worse sometimes, better others, though it rarely seems to go away entirely. So I browsed around and after research decided to try l-lysine. It seemed to work really well... until she slowly stopped eating it (mixed with wet food, 2x day). Now she won't eat her food at all if it's in there. I tried making homemade pureed chicken liver/heart "treats" to make it more appealing, but she didn't take the bait.

So when looking for alternatives, I found bovine lactoferrin. I looked on Amazon.de (I'm located in Germany) and the only powder form was this (don't worry, the info is all on the package photos in English):

Is this the same thing?

Any advice or suggestions are welcome.

Lactoferrin is not the same as l-lysine, but some of us have had good success treating herpes infections in cats with lactoferrin in addition to, or even in place of, l-lysine.  This is a very long thread but has some very good information about this:  http://www.thecatsite.com/t/267703/stubborn-herpes-infection-add-lactoferrin-in-addition-to-lysine
You misunderstood my question. I know lactoferrin and L-Lysine are different. As my cat won't take the l-lysine anymore, I want to try lactoferrin. My question was is the product shown in the link provided in the original post the same thing as lactoferrin?

It comes up when I search for 'lactoferrin powder' but is called 'Organic Whey Protein Concentrate.' Ingredients just say: "100% organic whey protein concentrate from organic milk."  If you care to go to the link and look at the product photo, it also shows the "branch chain amino acid profile" showing percentages of which amino acids in it.

Also, please note that I am in Germany, so what is available to me on Amazon.de is not that same as is available on Amazon.com.

Oh, my apologies.  I did misunderstand your question.  I will have to defer to someone who knows more about this--I don't know if it's the same.

Thanks for trying! haha I'm from the US originally and only moved to Germany in 2015 and with things like this, I hate it. You can find anything you want on Amazon in the states... here... not so much.

My boyfriend's dad is a dairy scientist. Maybe I'll have him call and ask about it. haha
