I have been helping my friend who is cat sitting for another friend for over a month now. I'd love to hear some of your experiences with this particular situation and any information or pointers on what kinds of food we can feed Miu, the cat, would be awesome too!

It's a long story!

Miu received dental treatment at the end of January because he had bad breath and rotten teeth. He had 7 teeth extracted and went on pain meds and antibiotics for a week. During the last half of January, Miu lived in the owner's boyfriend's bathroom because his owner had to move out of her apartment for various reasons. He was fine overall. Then after the antibiotics treatment, Miu moved in with his cat sitter and his owner left the country (She's back in April). A few days later, he started having diarrhea and was butt scooting.

So I brought him to the vet where he received deworming medication and antibiotics for a week. It didn't work and plus, it was difficult to give him liquid medication so we switched to pills halfway through. After a week and half, we gave him fortiflora for 10 days. That didn't work either! Miu has had diarrhea for 3 weeks.

On Sunday, we went back to the vet who suggested we do a full diarrhea panel. The results came in today on Wednesday and turns out, he has more than the usual amount of clostridium perfringens enterotoxin. The vet prescribed Miu with clavaseptin and Metronidazole. She advised we keep Miu on "hypoallergenic food" until the diarrhea clears up. We got him the Hill's Skin/Food Sensitive dry food along with some gastro canned food.

So my question is: is there such thing as hypoallergenic foods and what brands carry them? Miu is a picky eater and doesn't eat much either.

I also have my suspicions that the absence of his owner is one of the main causes of his diarrhea. Otherwise, Miu acts quite "normal". He plays, cuddles, and is social. The only thing is he doesn't eat much (but he has never eaten much anyway even with his owner) and has diarrhea.

Thanks for you help!

I found one list of hypoallergenic foods: https://www.petcarerx.com/article/hypoallergenic-cat-food-brands/1540

I wonder if a limited ingredient food would help as well? Nature's Variety Instinct Limited Ingredients, Blue Buffalo Basics, Merrick Limited Ingredient, Natural Balance Green Pea and Duck are some to consider.
