So last week it was really warm where I live, like 70 degrees F. My cat started sneezing that week and with no other symptoms I chalked it up to allergies. Yesterday, I noticed her eyes were kinda watery, but now she is keeping one eye closed almost completely. When she does open it, it opens only halfway. It's very watery. What I've wiped from her eye is clear but thick, almost a jelly-like consistency?
She's eating and drinking fine, maybe sleeping a tad more than usual. The soonest I could get her into the vet would be Friday, but I have spent a lot on vet visits recently and need to avoid unnecessary costs.

I wiped her eye with a warm cloth and, while she didn't like it much, it's mostly open now. It isn't red or inflamed and I can't see her third eyelid.

Right around her eye is slightly pink, and so is the bit of her third eyelid I can see. If I wipe her eye with a warm, damp cloth it clears up for a while and then comes back. Any input would help!!

So sorry no one's come along to help you!  I would say it's most likely allergies, but she could've gotten something in her eye and it's now irritating it.  I would get her to the vet to rule out anything in her eye or a scratch and then talk to the vet about an allergy med or eye drops to help keep her eye lubricated or clear of the redness.

Thank you for your reply!! I've been monitoring her closely and her eye has been getting better. It looks completely normal this morning. I'm going to continue monitoring her. Thank you so much!!

Sorry no replies....

I just saw this.

It could be something in the eye, it could be a scratch or it could be allergies.

If it does not seem normal by Monday, I would take her to the Vet.

You do not want to mess with eyes and cats. Things can turn bad really fast and they can lose their vision..

I was advised to do this when my guy had tearing eyes. Turned out to be a small corneal tear. Eye drops were given and he is fine. The Vet also explained to me how fast things can go bad. I heard the same thing yesterday, at the shelter.

My 1yo kitty was so agitated when we placed flea med (frontline) on her, she swiped her paw far enough to rub med in her eyes. There has been no chg in behavior or any drainage from the eyes, the third eye is very prominent for a week. Some improvement noted. She doesn't seem to be in any distress. Will this resolve on its own?
