Lil Bit is back after 3 nights of being gone. She has been home an hour. Every time one of the kittens get close to her she hisses at them and goes to scratch them. Kathy from the rescue is setting up an appointment to get her spayed. Is it normal for the cat to reject their kittens like that when they are in heat? Will she warm up to them again? I am so confused she was such a good mommy.

Yes, it's normal. Moms kick their old litter out of the nest to make room for the new litter. As you can see, it's often much too young. She should settle down quickly, though.

So, so glad to hear she's home safe and that you're setting up the spay. Any idea when it will be?

No I am waiting to call Kathy. The rescue is setting it up. I am going to see if I can volunteer anything to pay them back. I can't handle another pregnancy and she is calling trying to get out again. So maybe she didn't get pregnant.

I am for sure keeping sweet pea. I so wish I could keep them all. There personalities are so different and I love them so much.

Sweet Pea is really active and whenever she sees me she runs up and grabs my leg and wraps around it. Bandit is a love bug and will just cuddle. Smokey sleeps all the time. Cleo is scared of her shadow and is starting to warm up to me. I have actually thought about letting them go to their foster home since she is rejecting them. It will be hard to keep them longer and let them go. I dont know what to do.

You should keep the kittens for a while longer. Mom will come back around when her heat ends and they still have a lot to learn from her and one another.

You definitely can't handle another pregnancy, but neither can she. You're doing the absolute right thing.

Just close mom up in a room with her kittens and she'll settle down. Heat lasts about a week. It's miserable for everyone. If she'll let the kittens nurse her it will calm her for awhile. But since the kittens are weaning they will be okay without her. However, once her heat ends or she's spayed she will also calm down.

It's really hard to deal with a cat being in heat, but it should wane in the next few days. The sooner they spay her the better. I wouldn't let it cause you to ship the kittens off right away though.

I just wanted to let you all know she is at the vet now and will be spayed tomorrow. The kittens are biting my ankles now and are so playful. These last six weeks has flown by.

It's good she's finally getting spayed. What time do you pick her up tomorrow?

Are the kittens eating well on their own? I'm sure they'll be glad to see their mom again tomorrow!

They called and said she did well during surgery. I can pick her up tomorrow. They like to keep them over night after surgery. They don't seem to miss her but they are staying really close to me. Cleo is licking a lot whenever she gets next to me. I wish I had the way to take care of all of them. It bothers me so much to know they will be gone in 3 to 4 weeks.

Aww. Bless their hearts. I'm glad mom came through alright. What time can you get her tomorrow?

Are you keeping mom or any of the kittens? Are homes lined up?

I am keeping mom and Sweet Pea. Sweet Pea is the little black one and the first born. All homes have fallen through but the rescue doesn't seem to think there will be a problem finding homes for them. Cute kittens with all shots and fixed for 50 dollars is a steal.

Precious kittens, thank you for sharing. It is great that you have gotten mom spayed. She should calm down after a while. The kittens are forming their personalities, and still need mom to teach them. Lots of luck with these beautiful kittens.

I'm sure it will all work out. Maybe you can offer to foster until all are adopted. I know it's hard.

I need to get some weight on Lil Bit. She looks horrible. She is skin and bones. Between the weekend away and the two days at the vet she looks sickly. Before she went she went had diarrhea bad. They did a fecal and should have it back tomorrow. She has always had problems with it from time to time and has never had firm stools but this is different. It really stinks. And its almost within 10-20 minutes after she eats. Could she be having an allergy? A parasite? infection? I know she needs an exam. Hopefully the test will give some answers.

So sorry. She probably needs an antibiotic. It could be coccidia, which does not always show up in a fecal. Can you sprinkle a probiotic in her food?

Also, try mixing some plain canned pumpkin into her food. It won't solve any underlying issues, but may firm up her stool while you wait.

Thank you I will pick up some pumpkin tomorrow. I will call to see if I can get her in the vet sooner than the 21st. But I think that was the soonest they could do with my schedule.

That's a long time to wait. Since she's already been seen by the vet, can they prescribe an antibiotic that you can just pick up?

That's a good idea. If she has intestinal bacteria the antibiotics would help too.

I would think they'd be willing to provide based on the results of the fecal.
