My sweet 10 year old Hannah had a dental today, complete with 2 extractions.  She is recovering nicely since she's settled in her large crate and the other kitties are leaving her alone. Initially she was grouchy, grumpy, growly, and hissy.  Now she's snuggled up in her heated bed snoozing.  She has already eaten a little bit of canned food mixed with a teaspoon or so of turkey baby food which I watered down.  We'll feed her a couple of more small servings tonight.  She did receive a shot of Onsior for pain and a Convenia shot (grrrr!) as an antibiotic.  We also have Onsior pills to start her on tomorrow morning.

My question is what to expect and how long until she's back to her normal self?  Also, what things do I need to look out for that would warrant a call and/or trip back to the vet?

You should put her on probiotics immediately -- that's the best way to avoid some of the possible side effects of Convenia.  It kills all the intestinal flora and stays in their system for 65 days, so a lot of the side effects come from wiping out the healthy biosphere in her gut.  Its not even the best antibiotic for dental work, but it's "CONVENIENT" so vets use it.   It can depress appetite and make them very lethargic however, so you may want to find things that stimulate her appetite and don't need chewing for awhile.  You can boil a chicken and take the broth (which turns to gelatin when cooled) and warm some to room temperature and put it in a bowl for her.  If she won't drink it, you can gentle feed it with a syringe.

A little update:  Hannah's eating well and she's more steady on her feet today.  She's been eating both her wet food and her crunchies.  She's been out of her crate and sat in the sun for a little while and had some playtime.  She even was waiting for me at the front door when I got home from work!
