My cat is a year old and breathes so loud it kind of worries me. He isnt obese but a little chubby. Hes done this forever but one of my friends mentioned respiratory issues. He doesnt seem to have any difficulty breathing but my ex did smoke in the house alot

I would go to a vet and have them listen to his lungs to give you peace of mind.

I agree.  Does this "heavy breathing" happen all the time,or just when he's playing, or maybe just when he's sleeping?  My pudgy guy breathes a little loudly when he's sleeping, but only then.  I think he get's into a position where one nostril is kind of blocked or something

But anytime their breathing doesn't seem right, I would take them in to be seen.  Better safe than sorry.

I agree completely, better safe than sorry. It could be anything as simple as a sinus issue like allergies, to something serious, you would want to catch early.

A chest X-ray is also a good idea, if your vet thinks it's needed. I was usually pretty tuned in to my Angel, & when I took him for not eating enough, & was getting concerned, the vet noticed his breathing, & he ended up having fluid in his chest. Not on his lungs, but between the lungs & his chest wall, called the interlobe.

That's all I will say about that, as I don't want to scar you, but I do think it's very important to get this checked out. Especially since you said your ex smoked a lot.

My husband got a cat its 4 years old and it breaths very heavy. It concerns me as it sounds like it cant be comfortable and have full breath. The only other thing is it throws up like once a week sometimes more. It's playful etc..

I would get to the vet asap. It could be anything from a food allergy to fluid on the chest, or a heart condition.
It's better to be safer than sorry. As I stated above, not to scare you, but my Angel ended up having fluid in his chest which turned out to be cancer. Please ask for a chest X-ray, which I'd think any good vet will want to do anyway.
Please keep us posted. Best wishes.

The chest x-ray is an excellent idea, it shows a lot of abnormalities if there are some, and is one of the least expensive tests.  My cat was breathing heavy from congestive heart failure and has been on Lasix for going on three years now. He also coughed a lot. He gets it pasted to a piece of bacon with a tiny piece of pill pocket, no trouble at all!
