Johnny Depp

was nominated for and Oscar for his role in Pirates of the Caribbean. Wonder what his chances are.

I think his chances are slim to none, honestly. But I think it's pretty cool that he was nominated, especially for a role like that. It's usually only the serious dramas that get any nods for acting.

(An aside, although Return of the King was nominated for 11 Oscars, not one of the actors was nominated. Peter Jackson said he was very disappointed about that.)

Johnny Depp is hot

The Oscars typically overlook comedic roles, so I don't have high hopes for a win for Johnny - one great exception in the fairly recent past was Marisa Tomei's supporting actress win for My Cousin Vinny.

I think that Bill Murray has a pretty good chance to win this year, as a comedian who made an impressive move into a dramatic role (from what I have read - haven't seen the movie yet.) Oscar voters seem to like that (Tom Hanks, anybody?)

He got nominated? Too cool!!! I really like his work, especially when he plays odd roles (like Ed Wood). But will he win? Probably not-although I think it says a lot he was nominated for this role (BTW, I loved the movie).

I really think Sean Astin should have been nominated for his role as Sam. In Return of the King he really brought so much the role (Sam really became the hero of the story), and I'm disappointed he wasn't recognized.

I really think Sean Astin should have been nominated for his role as Sam. In Return of the King he really brought so much the role (Sam really became the hero of the story), and I'm disappointed he wasn't recognized.

I totally agree! The bit when Frodo chose Gollum over him made me cry so much (thankfully I had waterproof mascara on) he was my favourite character (of course Orlando Bloom running around didn't hurt either - do you see a theme developing here ).

I'm sorry he didn't win his Golden Globe. He's a good looking man!

Johnny Depp is THE HOTTEST guy in show biz next to my beloved Paul Stanley. I don't think he'll win, because I don't think he is in the Hollywood "clique" and unfortunately there's a lot more to winning an Oscar than just talent.

I don't think he has much chance, although he was brilliant. The Academy doesn't always pick the best, IMO. Sometimes it seems that they give awards to people based on several roles--Russell Crowe for Gladiator when he was much better in The Insider is one who stands out for me. Maybe they figure it's time for JD, since he's so good in everything.

Johnny was definitely HOT as Capt. Jack Sparrow, but as with Orlando Bloom, I only find him hot in that role. I kinda thought he was ok in Blow- but I think I 'fall for' the character played more than the actor himself. Anybody else like that?

Yep, I'm like that. Great example-George Clooney. He's a handsome man, but I don't find him hot...except for in "From Dusk Til Dawn". I don't know if it was the neck tattoos, the character or what but WOW
