Hi i have had my kitten for about 4months, when we first got him he had bad large runny poos, lots of gas and bloated stomach so we changed him from wet food to wainwright hypoallergenic dry food after a couple of weeks. This made a big difference however he still has problems as they are not solid and keeps standing in them and then runs around the house :(. Does anybody have any ideas what could be the cause or suggestions which may help?

I had the same thing with my kitten who was adopted from a shelter.  Its no fun for a poor kitten to be running to the litter box and its no fun for an owner wiping up stinky poo all over the house!

This could be a number of things from a food sensitivity to a parasite or bacterial infection - its important to figure out what's going on so that it is treated properly.

I submitted a stool sample to my vet (I hovered behind Pip with some plastic wrap so that the poo dropped onto it instead of the litter - that way the sample was "uncontaminated").  My vet had the IDEXX diarrhea panel done and it turns out Pip had Clostridium perfringens which was very successfully treated with antibiotics and probiotics.  The Diarrhea panel is more expensive but much more accurate and comprehensive than many in-office parasite tests as it tests for a wide variety of things all in one go.

Once we had the proper diagnosis and started the antibiotics, things straightened out pretty quickly.  Good luck!

Kittens are pretty prone to intestinal parasites. A vet visit is a good idea, but like @Pipperoo  mentioned, in house stool sample tests can often miss them, so if you do have one done and it comes back negative, don't rule out parasites yet. Also be able to tell your vet what the stool looks like-color, shape, consistency-because that can be helpful information in a diagnosis.

I agree with the others that you need to rule out a medical issue first. Once that's clear and you know you're dealing with a food allergy/sensitive tummy try probiotics.  Probiotics mixed in their wet food. Makes a huge difference in digestive issues and they're good for kitties. Here's a link to human probiotics that can be used on cats/kittens with dosage.

I would ask the vet to run a PCR diarrhea panel to rule out any weird parasites.  Adding a probiotic is also good.  You might look into prescription food for sensitive tummies.  Also ask the vet for something to help stop the diarrhea.
