Poor guy sounds like he is constipated.  Try giving him some Miralax.  The following thread should give you some useful info:  http://www.thecatsite.com/t/255767/miralax-dosing-and-response-time

You can also try mixing some canned pumpkin into his food.  Be sure to get the "pure" pumpkin, not the pie filling with the spices.  http://www.thecatsite.com/t/244415/canned-pumpkin

A short course of olive oil might help:  http://www.thecatsite.com/t/266250/is-it-safe-to-give-olive-oil-to-cats

Check out this website for more info:  http://www.felineconstipation.org/acutetreatment.html

Before giving any of the above, be sure to double check with your vet.  You should check in with your vet anyway because male cats usually rebound from neutering fairly quickly.  Your boy shouldn't be feeling the effects five to six days later.

Good luck with your boy!  And welcome to TCS!

Thank you for responding it seems to have gone down (the swelling) some since this morning but still hard he's been outside since 1030 am but he has not gone far at all which also makes me think he does not feel well going to the vet is hard since I am very tight on funds and only took him in because his owner abandoned him when I found him he had fleas tape worm and Tuesday he's getting tested for FIV from a friend who Owns a shelter because he was intact till 6 days ago she's the one who's been helping me with dewormers and flea/tick meds I will try ur pumpkin since I have that on hand when he comes in tonight and on Tuesday I'll see what my friend has to say thank you again for ur input [emoji]128522[/emoji]

I completely understand the financial issue.  If you live anywhere near a VCA Animal Hospital, they offer a free first exam.  It's a good way to get a professional's opinion on what might be going on.  Locations are in many US states.  http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/offer

Bless you for taking this guy in.  What a terrible thing - abandoning your cat.  You are this cat's angel.

Hmmm.  You might run into some difficulty with that "no emergency" clause.  I wonder what they consider an emergency?   If same day is considered an emergency, maybe you can get an appointment for Tuesday.  Give them a call tomorrow and find out.  The specially vet visit probably refers to an appointment with a specialist, which you don't need.  When I checked their website, it says the offer is good on an initial "health exam."  That should cover a sick cat, I would think.  Otherwise it would say "wellness exam."

It's so wonderful this guy has you to worry about him.

I would contact the vet who did the neuter since it could be a complication from that.  At least they shouldn't charge for a follow up.  Only feed him canned food with plain pumpkin puree added for now to see if that helps get things moving.  His bowels might be impacted and he might need an enema.
