My mom always locks Emmett up in my bedroom when no one is in the house so he won't attack the dog. Well! Today was not a happy homecoming for me. I get into my bed room and OMG the smell nearly knocked me on my a$$!!!

So there I stood, sniffing trying to find the source. I prayed it wasn't behind my tall dresser and it wasn't! Then I looked everywhere...I decided to check the bed. I never make my bed so it was a pile of sheets.....peeling the top sheet slowly my nose was again asulted by the smell

There, in a smushy pile amoung the sheets was a nice little gift from Emmett!!!

I couldn't scould him since it wasn't his fault. He knows his litter box I've NEVER had a problem with him using it.

So my foot has been put down! If the cat must remain in my bedroom when no one else is home for the safety of the dog then the litter box comes up from the basement for that time being.

I would rather have a smelly litter box in my bedroom for a few hours then come home to that!!!

So now I have fresh sheets, the window wide open, air freshener and Febreze sprayed to the hilt.

That is one thing I never want to experience again!

Could you maybe get a second litter box and just keep it upstairs somewhere, like maybe in the bathroom? IMO, maybe your mom doesn't want to be bothered with going down to the basement just to get the litterbox.

Poor Em, and poor you for having to find it! I'm sure he didn't want to, he just had to go.

I second Lorie's suggestion of a second litterbox where he can access it when he's in lock down. That way he's familiar with it and it's location. I wouldn't want him to get confused as to where the litterbox is going to be next time he has to go.

Poor little guy! I'm so glad you didn't scold him. That was a very wise decision on your part. Geez - I wouldn't want anyone yelling at me for messing my pants if they locked me out of the bathroom! I think the idea of a litterbox near (or in) your room is a great one. It's a really simple solution. And properly cared for litterboxes don't smell at all.

Yeah. I felt more sorry for him then I did for my bed. I'm thinking of buying a little one for my room when he is in lock down. I just don't want one in my bedroom all the time since he's never had a problem running to the basement to use the one he has. Maybe one of the travel litter boxes for when he is in lock down for a long time....I'll figure something out.

Ahhh... I used to get little presents when my guys were kittens! It is so cute when they watch you find it, almost like their saying "Here Mom, i made this present just for you!" I never EVER got mad at them for doing it. When you gotta go, you GOTTA go!

Ewww! Poor em! I agree it would be good to get a toilet tray for your room especially if he's going to be locked in there, he's going to need one isn't he?

Poor kitty! I'm sure he was mortified.

I lived in an apartment and the only place for the litter box was in my bedroom. As long as you use good litter and scoop it everyday, it will be fine.

When we first got Aiko.. she'd come in bed with us first thing in the morning.. she'd be all snuglly, cuddly.. and then.. out of nowhere, she'd pee on jeff! We couldn't figure out for the life of us why she was doing this. She was using her litterbox fine.. we were trying to figure out things like maybe she's jealous jeff is sleeping with me.. or maybe she's pissed (literally) that we're not getting out of bed... all to find out.. i think she was nervous to go down the stairs when she first moved in.. hehe! They are hardwood, and slippery. We didn't scold her too much for it when she did it.. but what a pain to have to get up and spot treat the bed so it wouldn't be stinky! LOL so hard to be mad at them When they're so cute. She's over her problem now, thankfully!
