I have a 1 year old cat who is very active and likes to play catch with toys where he will jump up relatively high to catch the toy. Recently he came up to me limping, this wasn't after a play session though. He couldn't put any weight on it and meowing in a very hurt manner. I picked him up and he squirmed out of my arms and jumped down. Then he suddenly wasn't limping anymore. Seemed ok for a couple days then during a play session started limping for a second. I was worried so I stopped.  Then was completely fine and running around on his own chasing toys that are just around the house.  Today he seemed fine and was sitting on my desk, I lifted him up and set him on the ground and then he started limping again and making the same noise. I picked him up again for a little bit right after worried then set him down again and he seemed fine again now. I'm not sure what is causing it.

Any suggestions on what could be wrong?

If this has been happening for awhile (like a week or so), I would take him to the vet and get the leg x-rayed.  It could be something serious.  Cats hide pain well, so if he is showing it this much, it's worth paying attention to.   I don't want to put any possible diagnoses into your head.   Just pay attention and if he is having this intermittent pain for more than a few days, he does need to see a vet.

K. It's been about 4 days of it. It almost seems like it dislocates or something and then pops back since he is in a lot of pain, and then is completely fine the second later. I mean goes from in pain to completely fine running around like a madman lol. He's always had his back legs kind of face outward since he was a kitten which seemed odd to me but the vet said it was normal.

I'd definitely get him to the vet for a check up.  He could have a minor sprain or it could be something more severe.  The vet can give you something to help with inflammation, too.
