When i got her spayed I got an ecollar just in case. I just brought her home and tried to put it on her after letting her eat which lead to a total freak out. Eventually she even wormed her way out of it and because she's so tiny I'm not sure I can really secure it any better. She doesn't seem to be licking the incision much. I've only seen her do it maybe 4 times in the past 2 hours I've had her and even then it's just like a quick lick or two. I'm just wondering if I should try again to make her wear it or not.

Personally I NEVER use an e-collar for spays, but my vet makes a really tiny incision and has no external sutures but uses surgical glue.  Instead, I get pain medication from my spay vet (buprenex for an extra $15), enough for 3 doses 12 hours apart, because if the incision isn't hurting her, she won't be licking it.  Mosst cats HATE e-collars to I would only use one as a last resort, and most of them can get out of them anyhow and probably do more damage struggling with them.

I did have one Siamese who wouldn't leave it alone (before the days of take home pain meds) so I cut up some panty hose and made her kind of a cat onsey thing with it.  It took a few tries but I got it to work.  Anyhow, unless she is tearing herself up, skip the e-collar.

My cats didn't wear E collars when they got neutered and spayed.   It also sounds like wearing the E collar is stressing out your cat.  I think it depends on the cat.  If she isn't licking it, then you should be okay.  Just keep observing her to make sure she doesn't mess with the incision.

The instructions I was given was to use one if she started messing with her incision.  She left it alone so I didn't put a collar on her.

Yesh they keep her overnight snd gave her pain medication last night and this morning and gave me some for tonight and tomorrow morning. There's also no external sutures so I'm just going to wait and see. Hopefully she'll continue to be good about her incision.

We don't use e-collars at the shelter after spays (or castrations), and at least 95% of the time the animals, mainly cats, leave the incisions alone. The few times a female has excessively licked or tugged at the incision, a belly band made of self-adhesive gauze has solved the problem. We get the kind for small children - bright colors with teddy bears, lollipops, etc. :lol3: The males get painkillers for 3 days, females for 5 - 7.

I've never used an e-collar or pain meds with any of my spays.  Thankfully, none of my girls have needed either.
