Good morning!
 And Happy Friday!

Today's question is easy (I think): Drapes or blinds?

Let's talk about what's at your windows. Do you prefer using drapes? Or do you like blinds (Vertical, Roman, or otherwise)? How about a valance?

What do you have at your windows?

I love the 'look' of drapes but have mainly blinds in my house. Pleated fabric blinds on my 3 ten foot windows in the sunroom for heat control and privacy, vertical blinds in the living room (love these, don't hold the dust!) One day I want my husband to build me some oak valances in the living room, they really dress up the windows and are a great shelf for display. Both reg, wooden blinds and lace curtains in my bedroom. Blinds are a pain to clean, but taking down drapes and curtains is even worse. I guess I got into the blind habit when I got tired of rescuing kittens from their perch at the top, for some reason they always think it is their own personal climbing spot!

Stupid question....are drapes the same as curtains? We have curtains in the bedroom windows (my daughter's has blinds too) and blinds on most of the others. The kitchen, bathroom and windows going up the stairs don't have anything on them. The bathroom window is a different kind of window that you can't see through, I don't know what it's called.

I grew up with shades, drapes, and curtains.

In this apartment, I have 2 huge windows. I have blinds with insulated drapes which I draw shut at night.

On the balcony door, I have extra wide insulated, drapes.

The windows are not well insulated. Kind of wished I could install the combination drape/curtain rod so I could have both. But it is a pain to get the super in here to do that.. he always forgets and is a really messy guy when he does any work up here. The combo rod is expensive also.

I keep the blinds all the way up during the day, so Artie can look out.

Room darkening shades in the bedroom, blinds in most other rooms, curtains that I can pull shut in the living and dining rooms.

How about both? We have blinds in all of the windows but we also have curtains. In the master bedroom, we put in drapes that we close to keep out the Florida sun.

I don't like curtains. Or they don't like me, idk :tongue2:. Anyway I find them too troublesome. I prefer blinds, I have the ones with wide plastic slats that look like wood. I suppose real wood ones would be nicer but they're expensive. I grew up with aluminum blinds that made the worst rattle when the cats got behind them, ugh. I'm glad there are other blind options now.

I have honeycomb shade and a double curtain on the living room windows. The sliding door to my faux Juliette balcony in the bedroom just has a double curtain, room darkening curtains and a sheer underneath.

I have wood-look horizontal blinds on all the windows except for the kitchen sink window.  I have a Roman Shade there.  I have curtains over the back door. It's a faux French door. Only one side opens. But it's got the look of them; so it needs something to cover it at night.  My kids both have light blocking curtains and valances. We have curtains and sheers in our bedroom.  Curtains in the living room and one empty curtain rod in the kitchen. I hope this is the year I'll find curtains for the kitchen.  At a price I want to pay.  I have the window over the sink, a double window and the back door all in that room.

Mostly curtains, but I plan to have a blind plus curtain for my bedroom to keep more light out (I just need to put the blind up....).   Blind in the bathroom.   In summer I prefer not to have curtains or anything other than for bedrooms as the light is too lovely to shut out and no need to keep heat in.

Both at my house.  Well, apartment.  The blinds in the living room stay in the full up position.  Occasionally I'll close the drapes if the glare is too bad.  Or if I want extra privacy, but since I'm on the second floor, and my windows face an empty, wooded lot, privacy is not as big an issue as it might be.  And I'm not one for running about in my drawers or less.  In the bed room, the blinds stay at 3/4 down, closed, and the drapes are closed except for a small, cat-sized gap on each window.  I like a dark bed room.  That's my den, my nest.  Later this summer, I'm going to add sheers beneath the drapes.  Then I'll have THREE window treatments for each window.   But the truth of the matter is, I just love crushed voile in a window, but it isn't enough on its own.

Vertical blinds came with the apartment. I'm eventually going to put up something over the bedroom window over top of the blinds to block out more light. I'm a migraine sufferer and Rune occasionally needs to go to sleep before the Arizona sun sets.

In my living room I have the bamboo shades I bought years ago at Pier One (LOVE that store!!)  & just some sheers I found at a charity yard sale years ago, so just have one pannel on each window.

Right now, I have the one that is above the air conditioner, pulled all the way down over it for the season, as extra insulation from it. I did also put the plastic over just the windows that have air conditioners for that reason.

Here is my living room right now.   (Excuse the cord going to my laptop on the couch)

as for my bedroom, some of you may remember my thread a few months ago, when I was redoing my bedroom (floor), & I was waiting on some drapes that I wanted to order, but had been on backorder. Well, they finally came in a couple of weeks ago!  They are blackout drapes!  Now, I have been looking for curtain rods. I want the nickel color, but some kind of clear finial on the end. I seem to find one or the other, but not both.

I also have some cream colored roman shades I found at Old Time Pottery, that I am going to put up under them.  I also have roman shades from there that are tan, blackout ones, because the sun sets on the kitchen side, & you get blinded in there at that time a day, so I can lower them if I need to.

Here are the drapes that will go in my bedroom! They are living on my massage table for right now. I can't wait to get them up!!
