I am new to the site.  I have two cats, Lizzie and Gizmo, both siblings and both about 1 1/2 years old and I would say they have normal activity levels.   I have recently transitioned them to more can food than dry.  Quite honestly, I can't afford all can food.  I tried a lot of can foods (Tiki, Weruva, Nutro, Fancy Feast, Pro Plan, Wellness, Merrick, etc) and finally found 4 kinds they like.  They also eat Evo turkey and chicken dry food.  I heard it was less carbs, but I noticed it has a lot of calories (538.0 kcal/cup)    I have been thinking of changing to wellness grain free because it's less calories).

Both cats should weigh about 11 lbs, but Lizzie is 13 1/2 lbs.  I figured by giving more can food, it would give me more control as to how much they both eat.  I WAS giving them each a 1/3 cup of dry food each, but I'm pretty sure Lizzie was hogging it and I WAS giving them a 3 oz can wet food (half in AM/half in PM).  I recently changed it so they were getting 1/4 cup of dry food each and a 3 oz can in the morning and a 3 oz can in the evening.  For a few days, they were not eating all of the can food, however the last couple of days they are eating most of it.

I guess I'm wondering if I'm giving too little or too much?  I am thinking I need to give Lizzie less can food too?  I found these two links, but I'm not sure how accurate they are:

Their current can foods are Blue Buffalo Freedom indoor chicken (1,179 Kcals/kg, 97 Kcals/3-oz can, 178 Kcals/5.5-oz can), Merricks' salmon pate (94 kcal per 3.0 oz. can or 175 kcal per 5.5 oz. can), cowboy cook out (83 kcal per 3.0 oz. can or 155 kcal per 5.5 oz. can)  and Grammys Pot Pie (92 kcal per 3.0 oz. can or 170 kcal per 5.5 oz. can).  It took probably over 30 different cans of food to narrow it down to those 4.  Those are 4 they both like.  As you can imagine, chunky Lizzie isn't as fussy as Gizmo is.

I'm hoping for some experience and help.  Hopefully the thread isn't overkill LOL

I apologize because I didn't explain about the links.  I found the first link and it says for a 11 lb cat, they should have 281 calories a day or 225 if they need to lose weight.  The second link has a different formula on calculating how many calories your cat needs.  It says (calculating 11 lbs) 220 calories a day (resting energy requirement).

I've found the amount of calories needed varies wildly depending on the cat. The best way to figure out if your cats are getting the right amount of food is to weigh them every few days or so. If they gain or stay the same, you can adjust amounts accordingly. Make sure they don't lose more than 1-2% of their body weight a week for their own health.

My current cat also needs to lose weight. She was about 14 lbs when I got her, and I had to cut down to under 200 calories a day before I noticed any weight loss. At 13 lbs now, she currently gets about 170 calories a day, and her goal weight is probably closer to 11.

I will say that I noticed a big difference in my cat's appetite depending on what kind of food she was getting. The more protein, the less hungry she would be just because protein is more filling.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.  I think she has gained weight.  I switched her over last week and for the first time she was 15 lbs.  She was 14.2 last week, I believe.  I need to keep weighing her.
