Hecate has done it again. She's been having an issue lately with getting a claw stuck in nearly everything. She's also been madly using her scratching post. But, this last time, after playing "monster under the couch" she got it stuck in my pant leg. And, in trying to extricate it, I'm afraid we may have somehow hurt it. She hates being held, and hates having her paws messed with, so when I tried to look at it, she fought, so I couldn't see anything, but when I pressed the paw to try and look at the claw, she reacted like it hurt. I didn't press hard, and she seems fine now, and has already gotten a claw stuck in my other pant leg, but I'm wondering what might have happened? I did pull a bit of silica cat litter out of the law, but it wasn't sharp, just seemed stuck.

Yikes! Can you clip her claws and use an emery board to smooth the rough edges off, or use the claw covers?

I'm just worried about you. My parents had a huge old cat who did this and one day, his claw popped an artery or vein on my moms leg, and it took an ER visit to get the bleeding to stop. I'd not worry as much about your cat hurting--it might be a good thing and dissuade him from clawing at you.

I've never trimmed a cat's claws. I've read about how to do it, but until I see how to do it, I'm too scared of hurting Hecate. And she never claws all that hard. It's usually accidental. She doesn't seem to realize that we don't have fur to protect us from claws. Either that, or she's trying to stimulate us to grow fur.

Can you take her to a groomer or to a Vet for just a nail trim?

It would not be expensive, around $15, but it can give you and Hecate some piece of mind.

Hecate's current response to people touching her paws. It's gonna be a while before I can trim claws without a fight. She's weird. You can rub her belly, but the paws are off limits.
