Chloe is a near 12-year-old long-haired tabby cat who is both in disposition and in appearance more like a kitten than an ageing cat.

The episodes which can be seen on the attached video occur once or twice daily although they have been known to occur more frequently.

It seems to me that because at the beginning she sounds as if she's coughing the sound certainly resembles air rushing out rather than any attempt to vomit.

At the end of each episode Chloe appears to bring up or bring out some substance however as soon as that arrives she appears not to be able to get rid of it and swallows it back and the swallow is both obvious and audible.

I've taken Chloe to the vet a number of times, she has had an ultrasound, cortisone injections and they're now suggesting I go to Sydney for some special scan at a likely cost of $3000.

I would very much appreciate your help if you can comment.

I've seen that a couple of times, both times in cats with congestive heart failure.  They would cough up a white frothy substance and then swallow it.

This may or may not be the case with your cat, but here is an article you can read to see if it makes sense to you.  If that's what it is and you catch it early, you can add years to her life.

My Daisy does this!  She has been diagnosed with mild asthma and allergies.  She got a methylprednisolone shot in the fall and she hasn't had any episodes since.  Get her to the vet and show the video to the vet.
