Thank you Handsome Kitty, I have the syringes. I will put the pedialyte on my list of things to get.......I've just looked on line and found a recipe for pedialyte . It keeps for 3 days if refrigerated.
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 3 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons sugar

Stupid question. I have read that it's important to count all the placentas once each kitten is born. Is it obvious what the placenta is? I am worried it won't be obvious.

Just received a text that my sister has gone into hospital to have her first baby who was not due until the 11th March......I wonder who will win the race!

Sometimes it is called the after birth.  It is attached to the kitten by the umbilical cord.  the reason you count them - one for each kitten, is because they can cause infections in left in the uterus.  BTW the mom will eat these.  Don't let her eat more than 4, it can give her diarrhea.

Congratulations on the new niece or nephew.  That's pretty early.

Yes, this works too.  You can also freeze it in ice cube trays, it will last longer if you don't need that much.

Oh boy! You've had a big time of it today. I love the maternity kit - It's perfect! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

It's very easy to make homeade pedialyte, and it's just as efficient as store-bought.

Placentas are easy to spot, and usually follow the kitten. Looks a bit like a liver.

Your sister must be having a girl - they tend to come earlier than boys! [emoji]128149[/emoji]

Thanks. I now will hopefully know what I am looking for.

My sis has obstetric cholestasis, which has meant she has to be induced early. We all know she is expecting a little girl. We are all hoping and praying that baby and mum will be fine. I think it will be a long night!

Thank you.

Both Midna & Boo are less affectionate, neither are enjoying petting very much at the moment - is this usual?

Hormones and the discomfort of being heavily pregnant can lead to lots of different moods before delivery. I wouldn't worry.

And the placenta will be the organ coming out after or before each kitten. It's easy to identify. Should be the only solid that isn't a kitten.

They are also in a brand new environment. They will become more comfortable over time.

Yes, that's true. I guess I am used to Tinx who we've had for 5 years and how she behaves. I hope that they will be OK with us near the kittens if we have to be.

They most likely will be okay with at least you handling the kittens. They know who feeds them! Though I did not handle my kittens except when necessary early on.

I've just come across this printable kitten growth chart that looks really useful. Here is the link in case anyone else wants to use it.

Hope this is helpful. Still no sign of any impending litter - I have my other sister's twins coming on Saturday. They are 21 months and will be sleeping over with me for the first time! I bet the kittens come on Saturday night!  Either way I'll not be getting much sleep! Lol.
