I've just agreed to take on two very pregnant cats. They are sisters and unfortunately were mated by the local unneutered tom who seems to be homeless. I took the stray to the vets tonight and he's not microchipped so have arranged to get him sorted next week!
I've not experienced cat's giving birth as all my animals have been neutered. These two little ladies will be done a son as their litter has been weaned? Is that at 6-8 weeks?
Our first litter is due any day. Our vet reckons she is about 9 weeks. We have named her Midna. Our second kitty is about 10 days behind her. Her name is now Boo.
Midna is the lilac point and Boo is black and white.

Have you checked all links at the top of the Pregnant Cats and Kittens forum?  They should help you prepare for your upcoming job as midwife!  There's also a lot of information on taking care of kittens, including info on weaning.

Both mamas-to-be are lovely, btw!

Lots of fun - though I'm getting really nervous. I've been reading everything I can on cat births - I've ordered a cat whelping kit on line, probably over the top but I just want to be prepared. Both cats are really small and I am a bit worried that they will cope with it all, especially as the ginger tom is huge!

Thank you. They are gorgeous - its why I couldn't turn them away. My youngest daughter is cat mad! We already have one cat called Mrs Tinx. She's SO excited. I've read and read and read - in fact I feel like I've done little else in the last two weeks. I stumbled across this site over the weekend and saw how helpful everyone is. I know I will need all the help I can get when the time comes!

I'm picturing those comedies where two women are giving birth at the same time and the man is running back and forth between the two.

There are some threads where two friendly queens have given birth close together and shared feeding and cleaning duties.

Our vet reckons 9 weeks but do not have an exact date - so I am guessing at 63 days (Midna - grey/lilac) Boo is about a week - 10 days behind her sister. Midna isn't licking herself that much, not more than normal. She is nesting a little bit. I have cleared out the bottom of a closet and lined it with towels. I have also put in there a water bowl and kitten food so that she gets used to going in there. I have also put some pampers mats ( got them on ebay ;-) ). I expect she'll decide to have them somewhere completely different. I am trying to confine her to my bedroom though tonight she was crying to get out so I have let her as do not want to distress her too much.

you cat is extremely close to birth the average is 65 days . You should make her a nesting area where she knows is will be. It needs to be a quiet and dark place this is very important it will help her relax.

you can get a box and fill it with comfortable blankets so she can relax and have her babies on it nicely. Its important that its something you are willing to get it dirty. pregnancy can be a mess.

Hi there! Welcome!

Beautiful cats, and thank you for taking them in! You'll have your hands full soon. The reading you're doing is wonderful.

What comes in the cat kit? Have you purchased KMR?

It sounds like you have a very good vet working with you, and we'll be here for you too! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Thank you. I've ordered Royal Canin powdered kitten formula. I'm assuming that's the same thing?

Yes, it's kitten milk replacer (KMR). Royal Canin is excellent. What comes in your queening kit?

Sorry for the slow reply. I've been in A&E all evening with my daughters friend who was staying for a sleepover. She ate something with a nut in it and reacted badly. She's OK now but staying in hospital overnight to be observed! Thankfully no kittens born whilst I was out!

In my kit I have antiseptic wipes, thermometer, syringes, lubricating gel, cord clips, blunt scissors an aspirator, gloves, coloured paper tags, aspirator & forceps. I know probably a major overkill - but it was only £10 so I thought it was worth it. Hopefully the mummy cats will be fine and I won't need any of it, but my mini maternity ward is ready and waiting.

You are also going to want/need small needleless syringes.  1 - 2 ml in case you need to supplement.  Nursing kittens won't take a bottle.  Also some unflavored pedialyte might come in handy if one of the kittens has diarrhea.
