I have a 9 year old DSH kitty who is the matriarch of our kitty family. Mostly we've managed to keep her "not pregnant" but at this point in time, I can't let her have another litter. I'm considering getting her fixed, but I'm wondering if there are any major problem with spaying at this late date. She's always been high strung and independent and honestly, she's quite snotty. Recently, she's calmed somewhat...she'll come looking for affection which she never used to do. I'd have to think that the risks of anesthesia are higher given her age, but being a mama cat all her life isn't cool either. I'm in a quandry.

It is never too late to spay a cat. As a matter of fact her chances of problems or death is greater if she keeps having litters. The vet will encourage or make you do some bloodwork to make sure she is fit for surgery. Many cats at the age of 7 and up actually have to be put under for dental work and such. I really would get it done now, it will make her elder years much better.
