LAYTON, Utah (AP) - Animal control officers have removed 134 cats, six dogs and three children from one home here.

Now, the Davis Animal Shelter is now overrun with cats, and the home has been closed as a health hazard.

"You could see cats on top of everything, tables, chairs, Tupperware containers, beds, the floors," said animal cruelty investigator Angela Parkinson.

The shelter is trying to get the animals adopted.

"The animals are safe. They are being cared for. We have no intention of doing mass euthanasia," said shelter director DeAnne Hess.

The children are now living with friends, their mother says.

I am so glad to hear that they are working on adopting the animals. All too often in this sort of situation, that's not the way it works.

Yes..they are VERY LUCKY. Utah plans to go "no kill" in 2005 so they are working very hard to get all animals placed. I'm sure Best Friends Animal Sanctuary will help out.

That is wonderful! Now we just need to get the other 49 states to have the same great idea!

Well...I heard New York City and Los Angeles are planning on going No Kill by 2008, Richmond, VA is planning to go No Kill 2006 as well as Maricopa, AZ. I'm pretty sure the states in the North East are very close to going No Kill. It's all very exciting.

One good thing from the news here, one shelter in Denver is taking puppies that were schedule to be PTS in New Mexico (I think). They featured the little cuties on the news last night - they got in 80 puppies and they have all been adopted, I believe.
