Just got back from the vet, my cat has lost a pound from 14.7 to 13.7 in a month.

He fell about a month ago and injured his knee. I have had him confined to a bedroom and opted not to have surgery. He does not appear to be in pain from his ACL injury. But he used to be a robust eater and now I cannot get him to eat his wet food.

Not totally, but he used to eat 2 3 oz cans a day and now I'm lucky if he eats a 1/2 of a can. He has limited ingredient dry available and he eats maybe a quarter cup of that.

I have tried to tempt him with every turkey limited ingredient diet on the market, I just tried lamb and rabbit. No go on the duck either.

He's on prednisolone and just started b vitamin shots once a week.

On the way back from the vet I stopped and got him some of the fish broth grain free food. Is it OK to feed an IBD cat fish? I know Lisa Pierson says stay away from fish, but I am desperate to get him to eat. I do resort to syringe feeding him if he doesn't consume anything all day.

I just can't figure out why he won't eat. He doesn't have diarrhea at all, which was the primary symptom before. He drinks water regularly.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Personally I think you have to do what you have to do to get him to eat. Fish in moderation is just fine IMO if he tolerates it well.

Why does the vet think he's not eating? Did you run any tests? Have you had his thyroid checked? How old is he? Are you giving him anything to stimulate his appetite? Nauseated/vomiting? Have you tried slippery elm?

I have slippery elm, but I haven't tried it in awhile.

I just upped his pred the last few days to see if that would help, but so far no.

He had diarrhea for months and had a feline cancer panel that showed off the charts inflammation. Then we switched to LID turkey and he's been fine for almost a year.

He won't eat turkey baby food either.

I hope this thread is in the right place, maybe I should have posted it over on cat health.

He's 2 and a half years old. They gave him one round of appetite stimulant, but rightly said that wasn't a solution, just a bandaid.

Had a urine test - fine, blood work was fine.

Have you tried raw or homecooked? Toppers to entice him to eat? Maybe he's bored with the turkey LID. Can he do any other LID foods? Which ones are you feeding?

Do whatever you need to do to get kitty to eat - if he'll eat the fish food, then it's a means to an end until you can come up with an alternative.

The longer a cat goes without eating, the less inclined they are to eat, hence, if you can also do a  little syringe feeding with an alternate protein, or with the LID you were feeding prior, all the better.  You also don't want kitty to end up with hepatic lipidosis.

Every cat is different, your IBD cat may not have a negative reaction to fish.   Again, it's just a means to an end - getting sufficient food into him will hopefully jump start his appetite again.

I agree with above - try another LID formula. Also, Whole Life makes a freeze dried cooked turkey breast topper, crumble a little on top of the food, see if that helps.

Keep your vet posted and let us know how it works out.
