Yes, I do know this isn't the breeder section :) I am too new to post there. If this is removed I'll understand. My question is how long do you try a King before you decide he will not mate? I'm afraid my F7 boy is too stupid to get it done. But he is only 13 months old and has never mated before, should I wait a bit longer before fixing him? I'm new to breeding as well so I don't know what's normal or average yet. TYI!!

Which breed is he?  How many queens have you tried him with?  How many times have you tried?

He is a F7 Bangle, he has two females and been trying for almost three months. They have not gone out of heat yet.

S sophie claire , do you have a mentor? This would be something to ask them.

If you do not have a mentor, I would suggest contacting your local cat association to get in touch with someone.

What country do you live in?

America and yeah I got my cats from my mentor, but she has just stopped being in contact with me so I find myself on my own. I figured there are a lot of breeders on this site so maybe someone can give me some advice.

Can anyone tell me what they do? How long they wait ect.? I'd like some real answers instead of being told to go elsewhere please. This the cat site so someone should have some advice.

Full access is not always optimal.  Its not uncommon them living together dont "ignite" on each other.  I suppose a common reason is the female is dominating, and dont let him even think about it.

The trick in such cases is to wait when she is in heat, and have them in a smaller mating room, with fewer toys, much less to do.  Food, water, some laying places,  a litter (or two, but they usually use just one), and of course, somewhere to flee after the mating is done.    :)

Be sure both know this room, and feel comfortable in there.  Half an hour of searching alone is enough.

This way, they understand there is something especailly going on, they are supposed to do something.

Also, most pairs prefer to be not disturbed. But some few prefer to have their humans there with them.  I remember on of the wifes to our older studs. They were friendly with eatch other, but didnt do anything actively when alone.  But when I visited their mating room, then they immediately continued with the courting play,  and mating.

Be sure both the male and female has extra E-vitamine och good food before, so they are fully healthy anf full of nutrients... Bu sure you trim down their nails.

Otherwise, there are many situations when they need to be unstreessed and have time. Esp if the male is unexperienced.  If they gets pals, he usually understands with time...  The breeder of our older boys, used happily inexperienced young males.  And as she hadnt no car, they were always coming to her.

Just imagine.  Inexperienced young stud, visiting the lady at her home...  Totally vice versa as its usually...  But they did managed every time, although it usually took several days before he felt comfotable enough, and the insights and decision matured...

Btw, how is your stud doing - does he understand at all he is supposed to do something, but dont know how?

Or does he not realizes there is something to do?

Are the queens experienced?   Its of course much easier with a queen whom herself lays down in postion for the inexperienced male, compared with an reluctant, perhaps even hostile female - and an inexperienced male...

If none of them is experienced, I would suggest you try him with an experienced friendly female.   Do it for a symbolic stud fee, Im sure will find find someone...

(letting them studs train on moggies may be tempting, but its forbidden and not ethic either).

He could just be late maturing. I don't know about bengals but some breeds are much more later maturing than others. Maine coons for example are normally late, most MC stud boys don't become sexually mature till around 18 months to 2 years old. But I would think all breeds have the odd late one.

I agree with StefanZ it is better to separate the stud and female away from all other cats for mating. Some inexperienced studs are put off by other cats about.

Your mentor does not necessarily have to be the person who bred your cats. If you go the the tica.org website you'll find a link to the Mentor Program. You can request a breeder mentor there. (I'm assuming your cats are registered in TICA since CFA only voted last week to allow bengals.)

Someone has probably told you already but sometimes males won't mate this young.  They will be curious but when trying to do so, they may attempt to mount but lose interest after a second or so.  This is normal.  A lot, especially purebreds, are late bloomers.  It can take him even another year to really show interest and actually try.

Another thought is that often eventhough they are able to young and early, they may not be able to impregnate a queen.  Sometimes they need to be older for their sperm to be "effective."

So right now, he's not "dumb" and he's not a total loss.  He just may not be ready.  Give it time.  I know a lot of breeders I know often will get a male first and wait until he's a year, a year and a half old before getting the queen.

He is trying to mate, I wish I could put up a video clip. It grabs the neck, gets in position then flops on his side humping away at her back leg. Every time the same thing. He isn't too young or any of those things. He just seems too lazy to stand. The queen isn't aggressive at all. I have been separating them except a few times at day during her call, nothing is working because he trys to do it laying on his side.
I didn't know this wasn't much of a breeding site. Sorry if I offended anyone, I'm just spent my life savings to get a breeding program and now my stud is incompetent. Sigh!!

Some breeders try to help the stud in this situation, keeping him in the right position.    Or even, gently keeping the female in the position.

So, really you arent the first one in a similiar situation!

Thank you, I will start trying to help him. Usually if I go near him he will run off with his ears back. I'll have to start slowly, getting him use to me touching him when he is "busy". The queen doesn't care what you do, 100% docile that one is! Lol

Inexperienced males are often very confused about what to do. My sphynx stud didn't start showing interest until he was almost two. Then when he was mock mounting half the time he'd mount the wrong way and end up humping my queens face. What I found helpful was increasing the urgency. I put my queen in a separate room for a few days just when her heat started and then after only let her out at night in hour increments. One hour out one hour up. I kept her separated the next day again while at work and then started the whole one hour on, one hour off thing. By the end of the night he had it mostly down. Your stud needs to feel like your queen is a commodity, something he has to work to get not something that is just available whenever. Timing is also an issue. Males don't seem to mature as fast as females and need more time.
