We adopted Stark (a gorgeous dsh) from an animal rescue place as an 8 wk old kitten. He is now 13 wks old, happy, healthy, playful, snuggly and a great eater (mixed dry and wet foods). He has been desexed and as of today completed his series of vaccinations. I am unsure of his history before we adopted him but he did have worms when we got him which have been treated since 10 weeks.

Anyway, I recently saw my friends kitten of a similar age to Stark and realised how teeny tiny Stark is. The vet also thinks Stark is smaller than average but was not concerned as he is all in proportion. Stark weighed in today at 1.5 kg. The vet noted his small paws. Does this mean Stark is likely to be a small cat?
Also, little Stark has quite an unusual coat. From what I have read, I think he might be a smoke tabby. What do you think?
Lots of questions, sorry.

He is a beautiful kitten. I don't know on size. I have 3 littermates from a feral mom. She was a smallish tuxedo, I would guess about 10 lbs. Mine are now three years old and their weights are 14.5 (female tuxie), 16 (black male), and 17 (black male). The 17 lb one was the runt of the litter. They were spayed/neutered at 9 weeks old. None of them are fat, just longer and leaner then their mom. Is there any history on the mother and father?

Thanks for your reply. No, unfortunately i dont have any history on his parents as i got Stark from a shelter. I just wondered if the worms may have stunted his growth somehow?

he might have been the runt of the litter. He might have a big growth spurt between now and when he's full grown but he might stay small.  My Lilith is fully grown and she's only 5.5 pounds. She's just petite. Her sister Sophie isn't much bigger at 6.5 pounds.

He sure is handsome!!

Welcome to both of you!

What a beautiful little cat!  The small paws may indicate that he will stay small, but not necessarily so.  So long as he is healthy, though, I wouldn't be too concerned.

I've never heard of worms that stunted a cat's growth, but that doesn't mean it's never happened.  Perhaps someone more knowledgeable will chime in on this one.

My girl is just shy of "average," at 8 pounds.  Half of my friends think she's tiny, the other half think she's huge.

He is really cute. Thanks very much for your replies. He is definitely healthy and happy, so I will stop worrying now and let nature do her thing!

Any ideas on his colouring? He is black on top with bright silvery white underneath. On his belly he is much lighter, but the black bits still have the light silvery white underneath.

Cheers
Pree
