Just a little back story. My ex is deaf she was when we met now she is losing her eye sight. She has 11 year old cat name Princess (momma we call her) we got her back in 2005 from her mother who never nutered her cat so she kept having kitten's. I have known momma since she was a kitten i was there when she gave birth to her two liiters (becouse my ex would not get her fixed she did after the second litter). She was four years old when my little boy tiger came to us thank's again to my ex mother. Now we already had our limit of two cats for apartment building my ex did not care. He was fixed and micro chipped by me. He is my avitar. Two years ago me and my ex split i took my boy tiger with me and zoey. Got a place got evicted after two month becouse they sold my place. Found a new place to stay been there a year now. We have been taking care of one of my sons friends cat named zoey. She was with us for two years while zoeys mom was away at college her mom threated shelter i would have none of that. So after college back to her mom she went. Her mom lost her apartment back to us she came. Then the split with my ex when i moved out i took zoey and tiger with me. My ex kept moma with her. Zoeys mom wanted her back mom just getting back on her feet. Zoey has been with me on and off four five years I told her mom no she has been bounced around to much we are finaly settled and adjuted to our new place. When i took her back from her mom the last time she was not able to buy food for her cat that is part of the reason i kept her. Now my ex is having a hard time caring for momma. She was so sick from an ear infection her face was all raw and red no wishkers left from scratching her self. took her to my vet no ear mites no bacteria ear medicin 14 day anitbiotic and a steriod shot later. Her face is healing. Now when we went for her follow up appointment we saw my regular vet and she felt momma's thyroid which she said felt inlarged i had commented on the lose of weigh half her weight is what she is down to. My ex would not pay for the blood test. Like i said my ex can no longer care for her the way she needs to be taken care of. Now i took custody of her as of this past friday pet intro and all to get them all used to each other again fellaway defuser and all of that. I supervise her and tiger interaction. The only one she has a problem with is zoey they don't like each other much she tolerates tiger. She did not want to be confined to one room so we swap off either her in my room and my other two lose or my two in my room and her lose well momma has claimed my living room she is fine with tiger if he gets a little to close they hiss nothing more tiger just wants to say hi then he goes to his spot and lays down and they dont bother each other serperate when i am not in the home. Now that the vet thinks it could be hyper thyroid i dont know what to do i dont know if i can afford the medication she will need and the blood test and vet visits. She goes back to my vet in three month for weight she is not begging for more food her drinking is normal she is grooming her self she voids three to four times a day. I have read the about the signs excess drinking excess voiding howling for for food she is not showing any of the signs as soon as i can afford to i will the blood test run i will. I have her on part grain free dry and friskys pate little fish not much as i know that can not be good for her. when i am at working or sleeping she is left with dry food and wet food so she can eat during the night first off need to put some weight back on her. I am a sucker no one wants an 11 year old cat with health propblems shelter out of the question. my two boys cant take her my oldest has four cats of his own and my youngest is not stable or fincialy able to care for her. I am crazy for taken on more with her as my boy tiger has IBS he needs vet visit for his constipation. Any help or advise is welcome please. Did not know what to do i got a big heart for all my cats

This was a bit hard to follow, but I do think you should give Zoey and Moma more time for an introduction.  Ideally they shouldn't see each other at all while they get used to each other's smells.

It is very kind of you to care for these cats.  Fish food is not great, and I would especially avoid it for any cat with a thyroid issue.  I would also feed her separately at this point to make sure she's getting as many calories as possible.

I will let you know what the vet says she is due back in three months for a weight to see if that has stabilised. Since i got her on friday i may take her in she lost weight from her first appoinment from eight pounds down to 7.5 pounds. that is what i want to take of first. if any one with hyper thyroid cats have any helpful tips i am all ears.

If she has untreated hyperthyroidism (sorry, couldn't tell if you said you were treating it or not), she will continue to lose weight. The medicine they use for it isn't too expensive. Getting it from the vet can be, but I buy mine online so definitely cheaper.

Also, untreated hyper-t can cause a host of other problems that you really don't want.

she needs to have the blood done i just took over caring for her as my ex can no longer do that she is deaf and losing her eye site. i need to get the money to have the blood test done. My vet wants regular weight done on her to monitor that i can't pill her so once i do get the medicin i will have to have it compounded and my vet can help with that. do you get your in a liquid form or pill form. what site do you use first time with hyper thyriod cat. thank you for any advise you can give.

I just get the pill form and put it in pill pockets (or pill wraps right now, she decided she didn't like pill pockets anymore). Once you have the dosage all figured out, you can get them here for $0.20/tablet (if you get 100 tablets or more, which you probably will). http://www.thrivingpets.com/index.php/methimazole.html

thank you as i hope to have the money for the blood test in the next couple of weeks. She would not even eat a clamig treat i don't know if she will take a pill pocket that is why i was thinking liquid over pill. I am the only one and i know i can't pill her. She is confined to my room and curls up with me when i am sleeping. on the pillow right next me she has all the food and water she needs. She is not asking for for food not drinking a lot normal intake for her voiding is normal 3 to four times a day. Not very vocal except when i go in there and visit with her. You say she will continue to lose weight does that ever even out. Do they have to go for regular blood work to monitor there T leves or once thing even out go for blood work a few times a year. I did check out the web site prices are not that bad
