I know you've probably considered this but is there anyway you could put a box out for him with a blanket in it?  Something that will break the wind and offer him a little something to snuggle in would help tremendously.

One of the most heartbreaking things I've ever seen was a totally feral cat snuggling down with her eyes closed and kneeding an old dog bed that had been thrown out at one of my apartment complexes.  My cats are so addicted to soft things under their paws that it's incredibly sad to think that some ferals never get to experience that sensation.

You're a good soul to worry about your feral cat.  I know you'll figure something out for him.

Thank you! The last snow storm we had was over a foot of snow. It seems like he stayed under our nieghbors shed, do you think that will keep him sorta warm. I know I feel bad that he isn't exp snuggling or warmth or petting. We have put out so many types of houses, heated house and container and he won't go in it and stay he is scared we also bought him heated bowls

I put an old sofa cushion out once. The never been touched feral cats couldn't get enough of it. Yes it is beyond sad. Another thing to make sure they have is plenty of fresh water to drink.

I can't remember the exact moment I stopped looking at the feral cats we had as little more than vermin. Maybe it's because they chose me. I don't know. It was like being admitted to a secret world.

Long stem straw is an excellent insulator.

It gets below zero frequently here (tonight it's supposed to be -4). I don't know what the ferals do or where they go, but they do fine. Yes, having thawed water is important, and do provide a warm dry sleeping area. . .but don't be surprised if he doesn't use the bed you provide ;). Cats are funny that way.

I feel so bad for all ferals. I always pray that one day he will come to our door and want to come in but he is too scared to come on our yard or close to our house he stays by our fence and comes in front of the fence to eat he hides behind the fence In the wood piles after eatin

When the lottery was up to that absurd, unfathomable number a month or so ago I bought my very first lottery ticket.  I did it because I knew that if I won no feral or stray cat within a thousand miles of me would ever have to suffer again.

I'm still chapped I didn't win.

Yes, the temperature will be so low that NYC canceled the Central Park Ice Sculpting contest (ironic, I know)

I have a collection of 9 handmade little insulated bins inside a mostly closed small shed.

I have partially covered it with a 12 foot solar pool cover, inside the bins have Purr Pads and mylar blankets, plus straw ...All of these should help keep the cats from freezing.

But darn it if only 1 or 2 cats are using it ...

Cats do seem to find strange places to keep warm.

It sounds like you're doing your best.

Dana the cushion was under the eves of a shed. I'd just plop it out in the sun when it got wet.  Originally I sat it out as it was headed for the dump. But it filled up with purrs.
