I took this little girl in today. She was found in a nearby village, thin, in bad condition with a number of deep bite marks on her back and neck. Wearing a flea collar but no chip or ID. She is now in a cage in my hall, hungry, scared but very friendly and wants pets and strokes. She doesn't like Honey, my dog, though, and Honey is just longing to play with her.

I just hope her bites are not the result of a rough mating. We have no idea if she is spayed.

What a sweet and precious soul.  Thank you for rescuing her.  Has she been to the vet?  If so did they look for a spay scar?  I know sometimes you can't see one.  Poor little thing.  I hope her wounds heal quickly.

Will you try to find a home for her?

She has been to the shelter vet, but apparently they did not think to look for a scar. I only got her this afternoon and although she is a gentle person, I do not want to stress her out any more right now by subjecting her to being turned upside down and searched! If she has no scar then I will get her spayed by my vet asap
At the moment we are trying to find her original owner with ads and posters. If that gets nowhere after a couple of weeks then we will find her a home. If she went to the Pound she would not last 24 hours, in her condition.

Blessings on you for taking her in.  She is a beautiful girl.  Hopefully, you find her owners and if not, you are able to find her a new home.

I had to take her to the vet today - I was grooming her, with electric comb and scissors to remove mats, when I found another large abscess a good inch across about to burst. The others were full of pus that I kept cleaning out. So she is now on antibiotics and the vet has shaved a lot of her neck and body to make sure there is nothing else and also to help remove the mats. Poor little girl looks awful but she must feel a lot more comfortable. I couldn't believe how good and calm she was as I tried to work the mats off. She stayed exactly where I put her and just growled very low to show she didn't like it, but she seemed to know I was trying to help her. She only once indicated she had had enough by increasing the growling and bringing up an unsheathed claw, though she didn't scratch me. I stopped and left her alone for an hour, then she let me start again. But now there are no big mats left and I can work slowly on the smaller ones.

We also looked for a scar and there was none. Her tummy is not large but firm, so I fear the worst. But while we are looking for her owner, then legally we can't spay her. Once we have given it a fortnight of advertising, then she becomes the property of the Association and she can be spayed. I hope it is not too late by then - I dont like the idea of late abortion/spays.

Oh Jenny, the poor girl.  I'm so glad she has you to look after her.

I feel the same about late spays.

Late spays are rotten - luckily been a long time since I've been confronted with one. I'll hope the best. She is absolutely gorgeous (I'm a sucker for long hairs) - - - and I'm so glad she found someone willing to go the distance with her!!!!!

I think we have a new home for her already! One stipulation is that she must be OK with dogs. So I am putting her with Honey to see how they get on - Honey has been dying to play with her since she came in. So far all is well - I let her out of the cage and waited to see what would happen, and both she and Honey came and sat by my feet looking at me as if to say 'OK mom, what do you want us to do now?'

Looks like the dog issue isn't going to be a problem.. but I guess it depends on the dog.

I really hope this works out for her Jenny.

What great news!  Obviously always the concern when we take one in isn't it? New home or are WE the new home? :) So wonderful - sounds like she deserves it.

I didn't hear anything for several days, and I was afraid they had changed their minds. But yesterday I has a call from the Rescue to say she has an appointment for a spay tomorrow and that yes, she does have a new home! I will keep her till she is recovered , a week or so, and then she will go to the new family. So I am very happy. Although I am trying to spend time with her, I know she is miserable having to stay separated from everyone most of the time, so it will be great for her to get into a proper home.

So she went for her spay and they couldn't find anything! The vet made a bigger incision, but there was nothing. She finally found a very small scar right at the bottom of the abdomen, so we assume she had been spayed after all. Poor little girl has a long incision and a completely shaved tummy. I have extra pain killers for her as a result, and had a row with the vet over Metacam. But I came away with Onsior. This is the same vet I argued with three years ago, and I don't go to her as a rule. But I had no choice this time as it was all arranged and paid for by the Rescue organisation. Anyway, the cat is fine and eating well after her op. She took her pill well.

She is doing fine, but I shall have her for longer. I don't know why, but the adoptive home fell through. At least this way, her fur will be longer when we do find a home - she looks really odd right now where she has been shaved.

Jenny, there must be a reason this girl needs to be with you longer. Things have a way of working out for the best.

Just an offside, how is the lovely Persil? I've been absent a long time but never forget favourite kitties.
