As we all know feeding our friends in the freezing weather is a chore but we do it out of love and we do it faithfully.  Today while I was feeding my gang, I was in the house between taking food out, washing dirty dishes and deciding what to do next.  When I went out the front door with the next batch of food I was in for a big surprise.  My front porch was covered with bags and bags of canned cat food - the good stuff.  It had mark down stickers on it so someone had done some great shopping.  Either someone was thinking of me, or the food banks were making rounds or animal welfare was distributing in this cold weather but this was over kill for them.  I don't care.  I love it when my faith in human nature gets restored and it did this evening.  Most folks wouldn't understand the excitement of receiving bags and bags of canned cat food but I thought I'd share with all of you as I knew you would appreciate the story.  And this is one feral colony that will now eat well for the winter.  Stay warm.

Thank you.  Sometimes I truly am surprised and I am very grateful.  I took a picture of the bags before I brought them inside so I won't ever forget the kindness.

Hello I just read your post and it gave me tingles . What a beautiful thought to know that someone appreciates your kindness and shows you that they are thinking of you and the community of cats you care for. Much respect for you.

So rarely do we - on this forum and in life as friends of ferals - get to think about the kindness of people. We often end up thinking only of the unpleasant and frustrating portion of humanity - - but THIS made me smile!!!! My bet is that it is a neighbor who knows you take care of outside guys - you may not even know the neighbor - but someone appreciates your kind heart. Thanks SO much for sharing!!! Definitely a happy valentine's message!

That's awesome!!! I agree that it was probably a neighbor who saw you making your rounds and wanted to give you some help. You have some very lucky kitties!!

Sending up prayers of thanksgiving for your benefactor!  I love happy stories!  So very often we only hear the horror stories.  We so need to be reminded of the good in the world, of people like you who feed our strays, and of people like your unknown benefactor, who silently assist.

When I posted this, I didn't expect the outpouring of kindness I received from everyone here.  Thank you so much.  It's great to know you all realize the meaning of such a donation.  That morning I had taken advantage of a grocery sale and coupons and thought I was set on cat food plus my grocery perks were such that I had $25 extra "free" bucks for cat food at my next visit.  Thanks to this benefactor, I can actually buy food that I can eat with this money instead.  You probably all know the juggle.  I still don't know who the generous benefactor is.  It could be anyone like you say.  I know what my neighbors do for the colony.  Maybe someone found a sellout sale.  There's one young lady who I think is still in school and she comes by occasionally when she has saved her change.  She buys an off brand of food that they really like.  Maybe 8 cans at a time and ties them in a pretty bow but leaves a note.  She used to try to feed them but didn't know where to leave the food.  When I found her doing it, I told her it was best if she didn't mind, to leave the food with me and I'd feed them as I know where to put it and can enter the property where the cats stay without trespassing.  I asked her if I could write up something for her so she could use it for a volunteer school project for credit but she said no.  She was doing it because she wanted too.  I'm sure this would qualify somehow for volunteer credits under Cat Welfare for her college help if she needs that.  The colony went thru Cat Welfare for their needs so they are noted there.  But she knows she can ask and I'll help if she needs it.  She is who I thought of first, but there was no note and I think she would of left one.

I often wonder if the neighbors actually appreciate that I continue to care for the colony after the previous caretaker passed away.  I have to accept this as the answer that they do and someone is looking out for all of us.  I do hope the person who did this kind deed knows how deeply grateful I am.

Thanks again, everyone.

How could anyone not jump up and say that is wonderful to have someone leave you

cat food on your porch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It cost so much to feed our 2 house cats

I have had up to 4 house and yard cats.

It cost a large portion of our food budget just to buy a no grain wilderness food

and canned Fancy Feast cans...for 2 cats now..

SO SO SO happy for your

cats and you to get such a generous gift!

Just an added note.  It happened again!  Only I was in the house and she knocked on the door and I was able to thank her this time.  It was a lady who works at one of the half way houses in the area who often has left dry cat food and some canned cat food but never anything like this.  She said a there's a pet store new her home that had the expiring cans and when she told the owner what she was doing she gave them to her for about 75% off.  I was so grateful.  I'd just run out of the last ones and taken advantage of the grocery sale yesterday and bought 90 cans of Friskies and was going to get 45 more with my grocery bonus but now I can spend that on food for me again.  It's things like this that mean so very much.

Thanks everyone.  Take care.
