Help me! My 5 year old cat has had no health issues and is strictly and indoor cat..we adopted a male cat about 2 months ago (I dnt know if he has anything to do with it) but my cats eyelid is showing and her eye is really watery she let's me touch it so I dnt think it hurts her but she won't open it..this is the second time it's happened...the first time it went away after two days this time it's been a week and it's still the same..I wiped her eye earlier and the paper had a lil bit of brown on it maybe blood....I know she hasn't been injured..could she be allergic to the new cat???

The eyelid must be showing just because the eye is watering.  But why is it watering?  Does she have symptoms of an upper respiratory infection?  Has she been in a fight with the new male kitty?  If it were an allergy, I'd assume both eyes would be watering, not just one.

I hate to tell you this, but one of my kitties has had a watery eye for years now.  It's been checked out by 3 different vets over the past few years without any diagnosis.  Sometimes his 3rd eyelid shows a little bit but it's not consistent.  Days and weeks go by and he seems fine.  One vet did a staining to see if there were any corneal tears.  Negative.  He used to sneeze a lot and drain much more from both eyes than he does now, but that was when I used Swheat Scoop litter and fed them canned food with gluten and grain.  Since changing to regular unscented clay and grain free food, he rarely ever sneezes.  Yet that one eye still drains a little, and sometimes the 3rd eyelid shows a little.

She has no symptoms of an upper respiratory infection but I did catch her pulling her fur out just now...could it be stress?

Best to have your cat examined by your vet. The vet will need to examine the eye and use an eye stain as well to look for corneal ulcers.

Common causes of watery eyes are allergies (environmental/seasonal) and Feline Herpes Virus (FHV) (different the human herpes!) The latter is much more common in cats and is similar to a kitty cold.

All cats with FHV present differently, some more sick than others. The virus is common among shelter and rescue kitties and is contagious. Once a cat contracts it, they are carriers for life. Stressful situations can trigger flare-ups.

FHV can also cause corneal ulcers, which are painful and what could be causing your kitty's third eyelid to protrude.

She should see a vet. She likely needs an antibiotic eye ointment.
