I'm a newish cat owner...have had cats growing up but was never fully in charge.

I've learned the importance of good nutrition in pet food in the last few years but it's all dog based nutrion not cat based.

I'd like to do 50/50 wet/dry but not sure brands to feed. Petsmart and petco are local and we hold a Costco membership (dogs eat Kirkland). Will need to start with kitten food.

I was thinking about feeding blue buffalo for dry but they were in the news not long ago about the quality of their food not being what they said it was. Thoughts??

Wet food wise it seems that most wet food is ok to feed as long as the meat content is high?

Thanks in advance!!
(Our cat is only 2 weeks old right now...we are fostering momma and 6 kittens. Momma eats Hills ideal balance kitten and diff brand wet kitten food)

I personally like these two lists for the best wet and dry foods.

I think it's good to introduce kittens to both wet and dry food so they'll be willing to eat both and recognize both as food. However, the more wet food you can feed the better.

Wellness and Nutro make decent quality wet kitten food, both available at Petco.

Good luck!

Don't forget independent pet stores
You can find good quality foods there and some brands are only sold there.

You can start with Fancy Feast kitten canned food. It's widely available in supermarkets and big box stores and chain pet stores.

At the pet stores, there's Wellness, Felidae, Authority, MaxCat,  ProPlan, Nutro, Iams and probably a few others. Most have both canned and dry kitten formulas.
