We recently found out nov that Bro has severe arthritis down the entire spine and lots of it midway to the tail area on xray.
He went through losing his brother to dogs as you know, Peebo I had to euthanize him on oct 27th...
So Bro got his lst steriod shot Nov 27th and then this week he began to meow loudly and could not touch him or pick him up..he was in pain and most likely just a jump up on the couch or a rug sliding or anything aggravated the arthritis so I had to take him to his vet 15 miles away
Bro has never bitten in his 9 years but 2 times one in november when he was in pain the lst time and was xrayed and found the arthritis...and he tried to bite me as I gently held his sides NOT THE BACK AREA and tried to guide him into the dog carrier on the vets table..when we were finished with the exam.
Bro got a short acting steriod and long one at the vets. I mentioned aggression and he said yes it does happen with some animals and steriods for a few days.
However Bro was in pain so much he was trembling...this week..
We got him to the vet as soon as we noticed..his pain and movement
was restricted..he yelled when he got up to try to walk..
So the vet says there is nothing but the road of steriod shots until it does not work anymore..and I believe that..someday Bro will have to be euthanized
due to his pain...nothing needs to live in constant pain..our thoughts..only
quality of life is gone at that point..
So who is having a cat that is having steriod shots every 2 months or each time it hurts itself when jumping up on something or in the house
just living?
I pick him up almost all the time..when I can..to prevent any stress on his back ...
A supplement is not going to work on advanced arthritis...from what I have read..I believe in them but not sure for advanced stages of arthritis ..
any thoughts on steriods and your cats having them and how often?
How long did your cat live with advanced arthritis before you had to make a difficult choice
I am going to give miralax to Bro 3 times a week on his canned food
as using his hind legs will cause pain more so to use the restroom if
constipated..or just using it anyway..
I did this for Peebo who had back issues from a fall out of a tree
and it worked for 3 years or more..it was safe..no problems at all
Our vet said that treating a cat for pain is difficult because the meds harm the liver and kidneys in cats more so than a dog..
