Hi there,( sorry this is long, however, i want to make sure i explain the best i can )

My cat gave birth to 6 kittens last week, this is her second litter, the first litter she was completely fine, no problems, however this one was quite stressful, the first kitten was breach and his head was still inside her when she chewed the umbilical cord off so i had to step in and help her deliver it, then she was very stressed panting, meowing couldnt sit still, so we took her to the vet who said that it was because she had so much trouble delivering the first she ran out of energy, so they looked after her for the night and she had 5 more kittens.

Since she came home we set her up in the spare room, which is warm and the quietest part of the house and have been checking on her 3x a day but not interfering, just fixing litter tray, feeding her and patting her. however and here finally is my worry, as its been a week she has started panting again, her tounge hanging out, non stop meowing and has moved her kittens about 6 times. today we noticed she does not want to feed them as much as wants to go outside (which we dont want her to do as she needs to be fixed once shes finished nursing) does anyone have any ideas??

Here are two problems - do the kittens gets enough??  Get a scale and begin to weigh them, in the beginning twice a day till you KNOW they are gaining.

Get home also some  kmr or goat milk, and a needleless syringe, if you must supplement feed them.

Kittens shall gain 10+grammes - if delivered very small 6-8g+.   The only good way for inexperienced is to weigh them on a scale daily.  (and thus, handle them daily including a quick look see.  If you do it respectfully near momma, momma will usually accept this - even most rescued semi-ferals mommas)

The second is, she, what is going on?   The first symptoms sounded alarming, and contacting the vet again seemed proper, but what you wrote last about wanting to go out sounds almost as heat!   Which is fully possible.  So dont let her out!!!

It sounds like she may be in heat! Very unfortunate so soon after birthing, but DO NOT LET HER OUT under any circumstances. She has to get through this. It lasts about a week.

I agree with Stefan. Weigh the kittens to make sure they are getting enough and gaining 6-10 grams a day each. If not, immediately begin supplementing with a powdered form of kitten milk replacer (KMR). Please let us know weights, and we can tell you how much to feed each, as well as how to feed. Kittens are fed on their tummies not backs.

If the kittens cry frequently they are hungry!
