My cat was diagnosed in early kidney disease based on dilute urine sample and his stomach is grumbling, gassy, noisy - young vet who seems inexperienced said she gives forti flora to her cats which I looked up but it seems to have a lot of salt, and selenite in it plus the first ingredient is animal digest - that can't be good for a cat with kidney problems. Then I found Pet Ultimates on amazon which is all sorts of pure probiotics. I'm wondering if anyone has used it or has any knowledge of the effects of any of the ingredients on cats? I'll check with the vet but I haven't found one interested enough to spend real time investigating all this stuff. The people on here are way more knowledgeable.

Hello there! Sorry to hear about your kitty's diagnosis but it's a very manageable disease thankfully. Question though - did she base this ONLY on a urine sample? How was his blood work? What symptoms does he have other than the gassy and noisy tummy? How's his weight/eating habits?

Cats with CKD (even early CKD) can occasionally (I should say 'often') suffer from hyperacidity, for which they usually prescribe Pepcid, not a probiotic. I'm a bit surprised by that. And usually, with CKD kitties, FortiFlora is used as a topper to make food more appealing, since kidney cats often have lack of appetite. I've been in multiple CKD groups/forums and no one has ever mentioned being given FortiFlora alone for that specific reason, though I suppose there is a first time for everything.

as posted elsewhere, I use something called Florintero for my Louie Bear who had extremely messy and gassy 'output' when he was a kitten--and it keeps both problems under control.

It is a paste, and he actually cries for it twice a day...he loves the taste so it's easy to 'dose' him. The ingredients appear to be harmless.

Yes only on urine. the bloods were in june and the kidney was fine the only concerns were high sugar and very high ALK photophase but they said that was stress but in december i had the urine checked just to rule out diabetic because of the high sugar and there was no sugar but the dilute urine was found. His weight is being maintained and so is his appetite but I switched to wellness divine duo and tiki now but other than the noisy tummy and increased thirst the only weird thing is his inner leg is getting bald - it started as a small spot and now it is almost the whole leg . I don't think the vet knew what she was doing - she's only out of school a few years so I really need to find someone else. I don't know if it is acid in his case because he eats and he doesn't really vomit unless I see hairballs and he did have high ALK levels so that's why I am thinking probiotic instead of zantac. I read zantac is better than pepcid for ckd cats.

thanks - haven't heard of that but he doesn't really seem to have that problem.
