Hi, I wasn't really sure where to post this, but can anyone recommend some good products to remove cat urine from hardwood floors?  We ripped up the carpet and now we want to get rid of the smell as much as possible, without re-sealing.

Thanks so much!

Is the culprit the cute guy in your avatar? You will need to use an enzyme based cleaner, I have used Nature's Miracle and it works well

And now I have a puppy going over all of it

We use Nature's Miracle Urine Destroyer and it's great for the carpet smell, but it still soaked through to the wood.

Best Product: X-O cleaner. Cat breeder for 12 years, rescue for the ten prior. The world's BEST urine remover is $$ and available online only: it is called "X-O."

Second best - uber hot water + baking soda and white vinegar, wash area, rinse with hot water and white vinegar. Saturate with vinegar, cover with plastic to keep thoroughly wet for minimum 12 hours. Throw out sponges used in cleaning. Wash buckets and spray with white vinegar to ensure urine smell is removed from buckets  you wont smell it but if you re use bucket without this step you are simply re applying urine to your walls , floors, bedding, furniture, whatever...- cats WILL smell this! Let Dry. give smell test. REpeat as often as necessary until smell is gone. Warning: what we think is "gone" is not necessarily "gone" as far as pets are concerned.

Wow, I'm sure you've had a lot of experience with this then!  Great, shows it's on Amazon.  Safe for wood?

If the urine has soaked in and is between the subfloor and the hardwood I don't think there is a lot you can do other than take up the hardwood in that area.  I knew people who had to cut out the subfloor section too

So this is one of the perps? Lol.  It's hard to stay mad at such a cute face!  I understand the frustration though.  Harry peed and pooped in the floor air vents years ago.  But that was before he was neutered.

We bought a house and surprise! The last owner let his dogs pee all over the wood floor, which they hid under new carpeting. The only solution we found was to rip out and replace the wood. If you're going to be covering up the wood again, you can seal it with a few layers of poly. That will encapsulate the smell.

True, we will be laying down new carpet whenever we move out of this place.  My parents did the same, and it seems to have worked pretty well.
