Hello, I need help with a stray cat with skin rash/allergies. I took her to the vet this week and dr. said she has a bacterial infection from allergies from a bite or something environmental. He gave her 2 shots and I have to give her an antibiotic for 2 weeks. I have purchased from Amazon a Kong soft e-collar (she cant be licking herself for a week) and Synergylabs antiseptic and antifungal spray.

I cannot bring her inside my small apartment so she will have to wear the collar outside. I doubt the collar will last long but its better than nothing. Since this seems to be a chronic condition I wonder if there is anything else I can use to help her with her allergies so she can stop scratching so much. Im already putting cumin in her food b/c i read thats good for keeping fleas off. Is adding omega 3 oil to her food good idea? Any other ideas like this? anything topical I can make with certain ingrediants to put on her skin?

thanks...

I really do not feel it is safe for her to be wearing an e collar outside.  She would not be able to defend herself if a predator threatened her.  Please bring her inside (even in a bathroom) or take the e collar off.

Are you treating her for fleas?  I have no idea about cumin, but it is very pungent and I cannot see a cat eating it.  Also it could be dangerous.  You need to check with your vet.

There are topical treatments for fleas as well as some treatments that can be placed in their food.

You also can use food grade Diatomaceous earth to sprinkle on her bedding.

Did the vet feel her skin condition is due to fleas?

hi ShadowsRescue, he said it was either an insect bite which could include a flea or something environmental like a chemical in grass etc...I asked specifically about fleas but he said he didn't see an on her and I have never see any on her myself or outside. However he said I can use a flea product on her after I give her the antibiotic treatment if I want. I want to use a natural one b/c Ive heard horrible stuff about the regular ones.

about the e-collar, I am disabled and at home most of the time so I'm going to try to keep an eye on her when she has it on, fortunately she tends to stay in the yard and not wander around. At night I'll have to take it off though.

I cannot bring her inside with me. I live with my mom and she wont let me keep any animals inside whatsoever. she doesn't even want me feeding this cat outside.

she has no problem eating the cumin(in her food). i read it makes their skin or blood taste bad to the fleas. I only give her a teaspoon or less.
