I think he's feeling better today he's much more alert and he ate some. As I was moving his legs they stretched and spread out, hopefully signs of improvement and not a reflex. I tried to get a picture of his back for those that asked!

Have you named this little darling? He is so lucky to have you to help him get better, and I truly applaud you for your efforts. I know many people that would have given up on him the day they found him, so thank you for being such a kind soul :)

How's the feeding going? You can mix up baby food meat and KMR, or some pâté style wet food with KMR, anything that's not too chunky, and spoon feed him.

I think he'll pull through, it will just take a lot of persistent. I've rehabbed a lot of different critters, domestic and wild, and I never gave up until they died in my arms. Sometimes, the ones that are going, will make a quick turn around at the last minute, so I just do everything I can until the very end. Rabbits are the hardest, and they can turn on a dime, for better or worse. I know it's hard to get invested when you don't know if they'll make it, but you have to expect (and accept) the worst but try you best. Sometimes a little extra love goes a long way.

I named him Reeves, he has so many incredible people rooting for him too. I was asked to make a gofundme for him the day I found one and I made one a few days later and I just made the goal what his current vet bill was from staying Wednesday to Saturday plus treatment and it raised all the funds in 6 hours, so he has,so much love and support! I was, shocked as we live in a small community but everyone came together for him! I've tried kmr multiple times and he is 100% not interested, I've tried mixing ad with formula which is what I do for orphaned kittens to make like a milkshake but he spits in back out. He's a stubborn boy. :( He's laying down with me at the moment.

That's awesome! Times like this really help to show the true colors of people and I am so glad you have a whole community behind you and Reeves! Sounds like you live in a good town with thoughtful people. Best of luck with his recovery!

I just caught up with this thread...what a lucky baby... to be able to survive an attack like that and to be taken in by you!

Bless you for what you are doing..

add me to the list of people who are praying for this little one...

Can you continue to try to massage, gently exercise the limbs? The fact that Reeves was stretching along with you is a dramatic improvement!  It means he is not paralyzed. He has some movement..and the fact that his little legs were moving in his sleep is also a positive sign.

I am so glad Catwoman is here! She is great for advice.

I never heard of a kitten just shutting down like that from trauma, but if she said so--I believe her.

The poor baby..He does not know what to think..he was at deaths door and now he is in heaven; except he does not know it.

Please keep us updated...we are all rooting for him...

Being stubborn and feisty is a good trait; at this time..proves he is strong..

Kind of do like physical therapy with the legs...just gently move them around a bit...bend and flex.

Just a thought...what about play? maybe a feather teaser toy? or a mouse?  that may get him to exercise a bit just be gentle and try.....

((hugs)))

Ah, he's too cute! Maybe wiggle something with feathers at him? Our local pet stores have dollar bins with great toys. Maybe yours does too? If you can at least get him to reach for an interesting toy, that'll show you he wants to keep going!

My heart took a leap, I could feel it! Stretching is not reflex, this is very good to hear.

I know my opinions and beliefs came on strong, how confident I felt that he is severely traumatized, causing him not to move, etc and thought later how risky that was to say based on a pic and description, not even seeing him in person, and I would never want to give false hope then be mistaken, I think you understand what I mean.

There is always that chance I was wrong, and there might have been more damage done that I don't know about, but honestly, I still believe my theory is correct, impossible to say 100% of course, so to be safe I will say 90% sure that he will recover :)

Sleep is good, as much as possible. It allows the brain to focus on healing, eyes closed means not using his brain for sight, touch, etc.

Sleep at least minimizes his brain use on his surroundings to work on recovering.

Kittens born outside/feral play, but amuse themselves with other 'toys', so he doesn't 'get' what cat toys are, but in time he will. Little things, a piece of tight crumpled foil that drops in front of him and rolls, you will see his ears go forward in to play mode, but that will be later.

That is my feeling on this. And I can't stress how important that body contact is.

I read this thread from start to now, first with a falling heart, and now with one that leaps and goes pittypat.  This little guy has a very good chance of making it.  If the nerves were irreparably damaged, there would be no stretching, or even dream-running.  You are doing a wonderful job!  Keep it up...time and patience are going to win this for the two of you!

OH...btw...I think catwoman is my new hero!

I had him up against my chest today and he turned himself and stretched and slept like this. It was the first time he let himself get comfy with me! I'm going to another vet a male for another opinion tonight.

 That is GREAT! For him and for you :)

He is right next to your heart, in more ways than one! It is very good that you have catwoman707 on this thread. I've witnessed some wonderful things that she has advised on and kittens that have made some remarkable recoveries...I have a feeling this will be one of those!

You are doing such a good job with Reeves. Sending you vibes for more positive updates :vibes: :vibes: :vibes:

I'm not planning on giving up unless is quality of life will be bad and he will have to live with three paralysed legs and unable to move for the rest of his life. I have switched him over to the fancy feast shredded meat food that comes in little containers and he will eat that. So that's a plus. I also am unemployed and a student so I have raised some money for his care but I can't afford a lot out of pocket so going to a neurologist would require a long drive as we're in a small remote town and a lot of money I don't have. If i had it i would spend it but i was laid off from cutbacks exactly a week ago. Heseems fine mentally he's alert and interested but his legs just aren't working and he can't use the bathroom alone. I'm going to build him a sling with pvc pipe and fabric to hold him up in the standing position to try and strengthen his legs without hurting or putting too much pressure on his body.
What a beautiful heart you have! And so glad to hear that he is improving! The thing people are saying about shock makes so much sense. My dog was attacked by another and was shaken by the neck. He didn't walk for a few days and the vet were unsure if he'd make it but he made the turn around and 100% recovery. I hope the same for this little one! Sending love and positive vibes your way <3

The vet we saw tonight said to put him to sleep and that he won't get better if he hasn't in a week. He feels pain in every leg and he said he isn't paralyzed it's called pareesus? Or something where he feels pain and stretches but the legs don't work. He also said the muscles in his back legs are already gone. :( definitely not what we wanted to hear. I'm feeling pretty bad about things now when I was feeling positive.
