I brought my 6 month kitty into to get spayed on Friday. She was doing well yesterday, ate well, was playing a bit and just looked like her normal self.

Today (Sunday) after approximately 48 hours she is starting to look pretty lethargic. She is still interested in her food and does eat normally, but has been sleeping on and off pretty much for the past 8 hours.

I took a look at her surgical site and this is what it looks like. She had surgical glue to hold the skin together and absorbable stitches underneath. I am noticing the top part appears a bit more open than was yesterday whereas the bottom part of the wound looks like dried blood. I am worried because this morning she was jumping around quite a lot and running a bit and there was not much I could do to keep her in place.

We took away her e-cone after an hour Friday night, since she was starting to hurt herself trying to get out of it (her mouth got stuck underneath the cone and was almost choking). So I made a small t-shirt for her to cover up the wound and it seems to be working. Have not seen her lick the area anymore and I am watching her like a hawk.

Does this picture look normal? Is that small open area at the top concerning?

Thank you all. First time cat parent here :)

That bit of discharge, is a little concerning, it it were just clear, I wouldn't be too worried but with her being lethargic, could you call up the Vet and send them the picture you posted here? Is she on any pain medication? I'm a little worried she might of hurt herself by running and playing. Its a great idea about the shirt, I've used it in the past.

Hydrogen peroxide Diluted with water dab very gently with cotton ball just to clean it up to see what's going on. Keep her calm no running jumping.  Is she taking pain meds still? If you can borrow or buy a crate to keep her calm (just here and there not entire time) works best or leash collar her to you easier to monitor.  If she's lethargic you may want to call the vet.

She is actually up now and being herself again. She's interested in playing but we're not letting her run. In person I do not see any discharge, there are scabs around the cut but I do not see any leakage/redness/swelling. The vet told us not to try to clean up the wound at all.

The red scabs were there yesterday as well, the only thing is now they are a little more spread out.

She is on 0.1mL of Buprenorphine every 12 hours.

Glad to hear she's doing well, you're in touch with the Vet.  You never want to break a scab it protects the wound.

just sharing Betadine solution is amazing antiseptic soap used it on wounds that became infected cleared everything right up. Sold over the counter.

that looks like the same bacterial infection that was on my cat's nose. I put calendula ointment on his nose and the spot literally fell off (scab) in two hours. Some more brown dots appeared in a cut given by the other cat (who bit his nose.)

Two weeks later, the brown spots are all gone. Calendula is harmless to the cat and might do her a lot of good The first picture was taken on January 19.

The middle picture is Sam-E on Jan. 19, TWO HOURS after applying the calendula for the first time. The third picture shows him today (Feb 10, 2016.)
I researched this and my vet approved.
