I feed my male cats 1-2 small cans of flavored like seafood feast and salmon/shrimp a day along with before grain chicken or science diet urinary stress.

Is there a possibility of the seafood contributing to UTIs?

Or why do some people believe seafood is a problem(excluding the Mercury issue)?

It is not recommended to feed fish more the once a week. Seafood has been linked to UTI's due to the high phophorus content and can lead to hyperthyroidism due to levels of iodine and PDBEs. There is also the risk of allergies, PCBs, mercury, and most cheap food brands used spoiled fish in which most of the omega 3s have been degraded anyway, so there is more risk than benefit

Also, here are two more:

If you are looking to increase the omega 3's, your best to supplement with sardine or krill oil (small fish that are not at risk for mercury or pcbs since they closer to the bottom of the food chain)

Dry food can also cause urinary issues. It looks like you are feeding some dry food as well as the seafood canned.

Limit the seafood to once in awhile meals. Once a week is fine. Some people like to feed it even less than that or even none at all. Will the cats eat meat based canned food?
