Hi there everyone . I'm new here and I'm not sure which thread to put this in. Sorry if it's wrong.
:)

All my life I've had rescue kitties. Which I love and adore but my partner and I would love to get a breed one of two that I adore. :)

I never owned either so I don't know if anyone can help. I am currently in position to adopt either one as they are some available next month :)
But I just can't decide.

:) could anyone help?
Ideally what me and my partner would love is a cat that would want in on everything. A cat that wants to play with us be around us and like to be in the same room as us.
Next thing is when it's snuggle time a cat that would love to snuggle up. Doesn't have to directly be on our laps but that would be nice. :)

We have one mixed breed cat who's 10 she loves to play still and is still quite active for her age.
So ideally we would love a breed that will be accepting of her.

If you could shed some light on your Maine coons or Maus that would be lovely xxx

I don't have either, but would it be possible to spend some time with the kittens so you could get a feel for their personality?

I have some advice that you might not like. I would highly recommend that you don't adopt a kitten when you have a 10-year-old. Even if your girl's energy level is high, she will be no match for a kitten and she will have a hard time.

Is there any chance you could adopt an adult cat? There are lots of purebred rescues. You would also have a better sense of their personality that way.

I agree. Young cats tend to pick on older cats, or they're just too exuberant, and it can really annoy the older cat. OR, get 2 kittens so they can play with each other and not bother the older cat. If you can't afford 2 purebred kittens you can get 1 purebred and 1 from a shelter or oops litter. Although some breeders will give a reduced price if you get 2.

I had a maine coon about 30 years ago. He passed away at the age of 10 (too soon!) due to a UTI that the vets did everything they could for, but he went septic.  I remember the $2k vet bill!!  I always felt guilty because he got ureteral calculi often along with infections, and I felt it was in part because I had him neutered too young and he wasn't fully developed.  I still mourn that loss, he was a wonderful companion and a soul mate if there ever was one.  However, that being said--he was aloof at times, did not like a lot of activity going on around him, and did not like children at all, even though I socialized him well and had lots of friends and family in and out of the house.  He popped a friend of mine's young son right between the eyes and drew blood because he leaned over him to pet him.  He seemed to prefer the company of dogs over cats.  He never fought visiting cats, but didn't pal around with them either.  Actually he acted more like a dog, his personality was more like a puppy.  He truly had the personality of a dog and he was very active.  And big.  Very big!  He was a huge, huge boy!  Very smart, he could open the fridge and manipulate door knobs.  He would snuggle like a giant teddy bear.  But I can't honestly say I would recommend getting a young maine coon to pair with an older cat--it might really be too much for the older lady. Mine played rough and I got a lot of playful punctures.  Maine coons are a handful when they are young!  On the bright side--even though they are some furry beasts, Puddy (my MC) really didn't require a lot of grooming on my part, surprisingly.  A little brushing every night took care of it.

I have 2 Mainecoon mixes and 1 Norwegian Forest cat. j has abother Mainecoon that passed away at 12 because of health issues (he had diabetes and a tumor on his nose that was inoperable because it was too close to his brain). Anyway, the 2 female Mainecoons I have are not much for cuddling. They love to play and be with you in the same room though. The make ine that I had that passed away was a HUGE TEDDY BEAR. He LOVED to cuddle. It was to the point where he would get in the way of me doing the things I needed to do ( he would sit on mt books when I was trying to do homework or climb up on my lap when I had my laptop and step all over the keyboard until I paid attention to him). And (in my experience) male cats tend to be more cuddly than females, well, AFTER they are neutered at least.

Of couse any kitten is going to be rowdy and cause havoc. So if you think your older cat can handle that, then you could get a kitten (or preferably 2 kittens so they can play with each other and generally leave the older cat alone).

You also have to take into account that each cat has it's own personality and will not always act the way you want them to. And while some breeds mught have "common personality traits" that doesn't mean that every cat of that breed is going to share those common presonality traits.

Raina21--the lady I got Puddy from told me the exact same thing, that the neutered males were more apt to be cuddlers!

I do not know if breed matters as with personality and how they are socialized. I have never seen a Mau, but my husbands boss has two female Maine Coons, purebred and papered. We watch them when he is out of town. They are thhe most beautiful cats I have ever seen, but they do not cuddle. They are sisters from the same litter. Their fur texture is different from each other. One requires a lot of grooming. If it is not kept up everyday she tends to mat. I spent hours on her grooming. He is gone a lot and not many visitors so they are not to socialized. I like the idea of an older rescue with the older cat you have. You could also tell the personality of the cat.
