thank you, all.

Artie went over and had a bit to eat early last night. In a 24 hour period he had 2 1/4 small cans of food; but that was a chore to make happen.

I hope his not eating is from the antibiotic. He had a bit of diarrhea last night; poor baby. I know the cause can be from the antibiotic~ they are nasty drugs.

You can tell his mouth is still sore. His little tongue is not coming out all the when he washes himself.

He tries to groom, but his head is all the way down and the tongue is not extended much...

It is early morning now; after 6 am. I was hopeful that he would eat some during the night. I was wrong. The food was as I left it.

I wonder if I can try a different protein, just for variety? I have some NV beef in the house. It may be just the thing to jump start his appetite. On the other hand, I do not want to jeopardize his IBD..  sigh...

I think I will give him a NV Rabbit this morning and leave out some Pride Rabbit while I am out.

If that is uneaten, I may bite the bullet and give him some beef....After all it is NV and safe form the junk..no it is not Ltd ingredient...

He does not act sick! I wish he could tell me how he is feeling!!

When my alarm went off, he was on the rug, waiting for me! He greeted me, talking, saying good morning. He has not done that for several days. His meow is different..a lot quieter. You can tell his throat is sore..

He also cuddled with me, in my lap...

thanks again...now off to fight the battle again....and face rush hour traffic into Boston and then Chestnut Hill...(doctor's office)

Ok----my guy is playing games with me!!!

OMG!! I could strangle him...

He refused his NV Rabbit, He refused his Pride Rabbit; was looking pitiful to me..

I asked if he wanted to be brushed, he jumped at the opportunity.  He is also getting back to his feistiness....he was nipping at me, when he had enough brushing...but purring at the same time...weird cat.

We played for just a few minutes with a feather cat teaser.

He took me over to his food.

I finally got the idea that he wanted a 'different' food from the rabbit.

I opened up a can of NV Salmon; gave him 1/2 a can mixed with a bit of extra water... Artie gobbled it down!! Even chewing a few bits!!!

OMG!!

He is so spoiled. It is a battle of wills.. He is so strong willed that he will literally starve himself, in order to get a different food...

I do not feel he is developing an allergy to the rabbit. He is just tired of it. He wants different food.

Such a spoiled brat... he knows he can play on me feelings...cats are so smart.

Well, before I jumped in the shower, I put the leftovers from the can in the refrigerator and put the leftovers from the salmon bowl on top of the Pride rabbit...yuck... I do not know how Rabbit, Pork, spinach and salmon will taste, but he has it all together.....such a brat..

I know he will not touch it at all..when I leave, he will just jump on my bed and sleep...brat!

 :lol3: You need to get a second cat! Shadow is every bit as stubborn and picky as Artie...but will gladly eat almost anything so long as it's Asha's  I'm not kidding - he'll reject a food outright, so I'll find him something else and replate the reject for Asha. After a few minutes, Shadow will appear, move Asha on with a look, and virtually inhale the exact same food he'd just rejected! :wife:

VERY glad to hear that Artie's eating again :D

Hate to say it but, I kind of lost it with him just now. I threw out 2 cans of food, uneaten from today. I opened up a really stinky can, taste of the wild rabbit burrow. He sniffed, almost licked it, then turned around. I turned him gently towards it, he got closer to licking it, the lifted his head up to walk away.
I got so upset. He can eat, he just wants different stuff. I pushed him towards the food, he fought, stepped in the dish. Now I had stinky rabbit on the floor, wall, on his foot, everywhere!!!!

I finished cleaning it up, but Artie is still washing up, shaking his foot.

I am done. Till tomorrow.

I lost my temper. It takes a lot for me to do that with Artie

I feel bad, but I am just so tired of his fussiness

This is so true. My cat will only eat Temptations cat treats (bad I know). He has only eaten the Orjen freeze dried treats when I gave two to my other cat and he snatched one away from her.

I hope Artie starts eating better soon.

I wish I could say that I don't know how you feel but I do. With my 3, it's not  medical issues, it's just that they are SUPER picky and they enjoy seeing me go batpoop crazy trying to figure out what they want to eat. Countless dishes of food have been dumped only to be refilled with something else and then that gets rejected too. I swear that they get together behind my back and laugh at me.

Lilith: "Did you see the look on her face when we ALL left the table?"

Sophie: "Of course. It was priceless"

Henry: "How about when she followed us and asked us what we wanted. Does she think we can talk?"

Lilith: "HAHA. I know. She's so silly"

Sophie: " I have an idea. Let's go back in and see if she'll give us something else"

Henry: "Then what?"

Lilith: "What do you mean THEN WHAT? How long have you been here? Then we leave the room AGAIN"

Sophie: "That's the best. She might cook us some chicken if we do that... "

ALL: "OK. Let's do it".

Don't beat yourself up. You're a GREAT mom to Artie and if he could talk, he'd say the same. No one could love that little guy as much as you do ( but we love him too, that little cutie
)

Nobody's perfect. You're doing your best. No one can ask for more. He  has eaten some, so that's a positive step.

Maybe the fact he licked some off his foot stimulated his appetite... :D

Don't feel bad, we've all been there :hugs:

Glad to see Artie ate the rabbit food.  Hopefully he ate his breakfast as well.

When I first adopted Ruby, I had no idea how stressful a fussy cat could be, as Ruby ate everything I gave her and still wanted more.  She'd been a stray for a while before I adopted here so she was very food-obsessed. But that eventually wore off.  Due to her sensitive digestive system, she's on one food only - canned hypoallergenic duck - and now she's getting tired of it, so I'm learning how to worry that she's not eating enough. She has her yearly vet exam on Friday, so I'm hoping to maybe get another food that will tempt her taste buds more, but also agree with her belly.  Meanwhile, I'm getting tired of saying "aren't you hungry, Ruby".

So, I sort of know how you feel, Artiemom.

When i posted that, I was tired, felt bad for what I did and was mentally exhausted from the day.

Artie did lick at the food..funny, he is licking the gravy from the rabbit, but he will EAT the fish when I put it down for him..

Anyway, he ate about 1/2 can during the night--mostly gravy...

He followed me into the kitchen this morning, waiting for breakfast. He got his rabbit, sniffed and walked away!!

now he is in his tent, hiding....

Jasmine has one brand of canned food that she will eat. She gets 1/2 can, twice a day. Last night before I left for the caucus she informed me that I wasn't allowed to leave until I had fed the poor, starving kitty, so I gave her her supper. She sniffed it, and said "Eww! Leftovers again?!" and stalked off. This morning I checked her saucer. It looked like about two bites had disappeared.

She's a smart cat; you'd think that eventually she'd catch on that her supper is always leftovers, and complaining about it does no good, but I guess hope springs eternal ("Maybe this time the stupid human will figure it out.").

This is perfectly normal cat behavior. Just because a cat has special dietary needs is no reason to assume that it will be sensible about eating.

You're lucky that she eats it. Mine will not eat leftovers at all. This is why the majority of canned foods I feed are the 3 ounce cans. One each per meal. we use some 5.5 ounce cans but the big 13 ounce cans are out. I'd end up tossing about half of each one. I've tried to give them leftovers warmed, cold, with warm salt free broth added, with toppers added and every time it's the same thing. They look at the dish, look at me, back at the dish and then back at me like, "What the
is this? YOU eat it" and then leave the table in a huff with me following saying, "Wait. Mommy will get you something else." Too late. They are already offended at that point. Mommy must be punished for crimes against felines.

It's night and day compared to having just a dog. My dog will eat ANYTHING. She just loves food. Nothing is off limits to her including the meals that the cats give back to me all over the rug. The last time Henry did that, I went to grab stuff to clean it up and when I got to the spot about 60 seconds after he did it, the mess was gone and dog was licking her chops while grinning like a fool.
